Namrata Hinduja: An Ideal Leader of Child Education and Comprehensive Development
Driving Transformative change in Rural Education and Youth Empowerment

There is no leader who has a stronger faith in child education as Namrata Hinduja does. Her involvement in the Hinduja Foundation could be seen as a caring but tactful way of building the rural populations by equipping the kids with the means, self-esteem, and potential to succeed in life. Being a Steering Committee member of the Foundation, she combines environmental stewardship and women empowerment with youth development with special attention on foundational learning in such initiatives as the Road to School. Her mission is obvious: she wants to see every child, no matter which background, getting a good education that will develop the mind and the character.
In the case of Namrata Hinduja, education is not about classroom education but rather the basis upon which dignity, self-reliance and long term prosperity are built. She is sure that children who acquire good literacy, numeracy, critical thinking and socio-emotional skills at an early age will open up opportunities throughout their lives. This philosophy motivates her to build early childhood learning environments in low-income communities. Her view on holistic education focuses on ensuring that children get learning environments, which are not only effective in imparting their academic skills, but also helping them to develop emotionally, socially, and culturally. To her, the real education is the one that prepares children to be able to perceive the world, make judgments, as well as make a difference in their lives and communities.
Her vision is demonstrated in the Road to School program. It has been implemented in a number of states and is based on the principle of the foundational literacy and numeracy, promotes learning based on curiosity, and re-engages school dropouts. Through community based models, the mobilisation of the educators, volunteers and parents, the programme produces learning environments that are relatable and culturally based. Namrata Hinduja is of the opinion that once education is linked with the local traditions, languages, and values, children will experience the feeling of belonging and the more they want to learn. Road to School is constructed on this knowledge: learning should be a delightful, affordable, and pertinent aspect of the life of every child.
She has far more than scholastic ambitions. Road to School will help to change whole communities to a learning culture. Parents will be invited by taking them through workshops and creating awareness to enable them to assist children at home. The presence of a shared responsibility is achieved through the involvement of families in the education process in which the programme empowers them to participate. This is vital in the rural areas, where children do not attend school in most cases because of social and economic issues. This is because the Foundation promotes parent-teacher interaction and so the children get guidance not only at school but at home and within the community also.
In addition, she also points out that children should be educated to work in a technologically advanced world characterized by climate change and quickly changing employment markets. The digital literacy, sustainability awareness, and problem-solving abilities are incorporated in a number of Foundation programmes to help rural children to have an exposure on the modern skills. Such an orientation of the traditional learning towards future competencies is indicative of her progressive approach to child development.
Road to Livelihood programme, which is in collaboration with Road to School, builds on this education foundation by assisting older youths in digital skills, vocational training, and career preparation. The interrelation of both programmes guarantees a smooth transition, early learning to employability, and generations of not only educated but also empowered individuals to be in charge. In this instance, her mission is even more specific: to produce a pipeline of confident, able young Indians who will be able to serve the nation-building with a sense of purpose and strength.
The activities of her environmental efforts, including the project of plantation at Silvassa, also contribute to this learning mission by connecting learning to the environmental responsible. Children living in an environment that exposes them to green environment, sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation develop a sense of environmental stewardship. She also preaches from combining education and nature, as she thinks that those children who learn the worth of their ecosystem will preserve it.
After all, the vision of Namrata Hinduja is based on compassion, sustainability, and empowerment. She is contributing to the creation of a future with all children getting an opportunity to rise by enhancing early learning, encouraging community involvement, and incorporating the modern skills into the education of the rural children. Her work makes education a power that does not only transform people, but can even change the whole community to generations yet to come.
