Major advancements in the study period (500-1500 CE)

Middle ages in Europe began when a group of people from northern Europe invaded in the land of Romans. They controlled much of their land and started their kingdom.

1-Early Middle Ages:

The invaders conquered the land and converted to Christianity, which become a major religion during middle ages. The pop was appointed as the head of the Church and a very powerful personality. Charlemagne was the successful ruler of that era. He ruled over the area of France and Germany. The pop crowned Charlemagne, the ruler of the kingdom of Franks in the 8th century. From 8th to 10th century, viking invaders started to invade the land of Romans, the area now called Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They created much troubled for the rulers of that era. During the 10th century, to tackle with the invaders and protect themselves, France introduced the Feudal system. The landlords offered their land to Knights in order to serve them. The knights defends the rulers in the battle field. Other people, called serfs are forced to work in the farm lands. Their status was different from slaves, an unpaid slaves.

2-Later Middle Ages:

During the 11th century, conditions somehow improved. People started to grow healthy food to improve their diets. Which results in the growth of human population. Similarly they learn to trade and towns also grew. Europeans introduced a new style of art and architecture. Gothic style was the major and most populous style of that era. They built buildings with tall towers and stately Cathedrals of stone. One of the famous building is Notre-Dame located in Paris, is the best example of Gothic Style.

Europeans took a step forward in development by learning. They learn science and technology for the betterment of their society. First European Universities was built in Paris, France, Italy and Bologna. At first there was limited edition of books for the students, but after the development of printing and press, a large number of books were published every year. In this way most of the people have an easy and cheap access to the books.

King John of England ruled over the Europe in this era. He forced the Feudal lord to accept their authorities and signed the Magna Carta in 1215 CE. This documentation provided human rights tho their people and stated that the king was not above the Law. There was equal rights mentioned for the king and the people.

3-End of the Middle Ages in Europe:

End of the middle ages in Europe was highly marked by trouble and known as "Era of Crisis". The people of England and the France started on a never ending war, that lasts from 1337 to 1453 over their territorial rights.

A large mass of people was pushed to death by a vicious disease called "Black Death". It was a contagious disease and spread all over the area in a no time. It killed over one-third of the people of that Era. It lasts from 1347 to 1351 CE.

Printing was the great invention of that era that made possible for people an easy access to books and help them to learn new things. The printing companies produced a great mass of books and distribute it all over the areas. Despite of major advancements during the middle ages, various changes led the the epilogue of middle ages. Feudalism weaken over some areas of Europe and England and France were emerged as a strong countries of that time.

Near the end, the Europeans learnt about Americans and start knowing abut the rest of the World. In short, we say that it was the rise of modern age.
