A person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being are all considered aspects of their mental health. It has an impact on people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and is a major factor in deciding how they respond to stress, interact with others, and make decisions. From birth to maturity, mental health is crucial at every stage of life, just like physical health. Mental health problems have grown more prevalent and worrisome in today's fast-paced and cutthroat society. Millions of people worldwide suffer from conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other behavioural issues, thus it is critical to treat mental health issues with the same gravity as physical disorders.

Mental health is influenced by a number of elements, such as biological characteristics like brain chemistry and genetics, life experiences like abuse or trauma, and a family history of mental health issues. Environmental elements that have a big influence include stress at work, social isolation, academic pressure, and unstable finances. Mental health issues have been exacerbated in recent years by the quick development of technology, excessive use of social media, and a decline in meaningful human interaction. Serious repercussions, including diminished productivity, strained relationships, substance misuse, self-harm, and even suicide, may result from neglecting mental health.

But more people are realising that mental health issues are prevalent, treatable, and real. Seeking mental health specialists' assistance is a brave and self-careful act rather than a sign of weakness. Promoting mental wellness requires core behaviours including eating a balanced diet, exercising frequently, getting enough sleep, practicing mindfulness, and forming close social bonds. Effective strategies for managing and overcoming mental health issues include therapy, counselling, and, where required, medication. Given that mental health is essential to success and happiness in general, educational institutions and workplaces are progressively putting mental health programs into place to assist staff and students.

The social judgement has been lessened thanks to the candid discussions of mental health issues by a number of well-known individuals. For instance, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone established the Live Love Laugh Foundation to raise awareness of mental health issues in India after sharing her personal story of despair. Likewise, Rabindranath Tagore, the poet, went through periods of intense grief following significant personal losses, which he used to inspire his literary works. The significance of mental health became even more apparent during the COVID-19 epidemic, as individuals worldwide experienced uncertainty, anxiety, and loneliness. A significant increase in cases of anxiety, sadness, and other mental illnesses was caused by lockdowns and financial difficulties.

Many businesses, including Google and Microsoft, have begun to support mental health initiatives in the workplace by providing wellness programs and "mental health days" to assist staff in managing stress. Counselling centres are also being established by colleges and universities so that students can get help without worrying about being judged. The increasing dedication to mental wellness at the local level is exemplified by community-based organisations like Moner Bondhu and Kaan Pete Roi in Bangladesh, which offer mental health care via helplines and online services.

Maintaining mental health is a shared responsibility as much as a personal one. A supportive environment that prioritises mental health can be created by family, friends, employers, educational institutions, and society at large. We must take proactive steps to reduce stigma, promote candid discussions, and guarantee that everyone has access to mental health resources. "A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" is what the World Health Organisation defines as health. Therefore, mental well-being is a prerequisite for achieving actual health.

In summary, mental and physical health are equally important and should be treated with the same respect. A future where everyone has the chance to flourish mentally and physically can be achieved with the right understanding, early intervention, and caring support networks. For both individuals and societies, mental health is a basic human right that guarantees a better, happier, and more productive life. It is not a luxury.
