Lyndsay Maas on Why You Should Find a Mentor in College
Lyndsay Maas, based in Santa Barbara, has spent almost ten years of her career investing in the education sector. Lyndsay discusses how students can benefit from having a mentor in college.

Having a mentor in college can have a significant impact on a student’s life. There are many reasons why students need to have mentors. A mentor can help students develop their professional networking skills and connect with others in their field. It can also provide them with advice and support.
A Confidence Boost
Many students feel overwhelmed by the amount of work and studying they must complete to graduate. They start to wonder if they made the right choice or need to be equipped to handle the challenges that come with the program.
Having a mentor can motivate and inspire you to reach your goals. They can help you overcome obstacles and keep you focused on achieving your goals. A mentor will help you get back up and keep going whenever you fall.
A New Perspective
Unlike mentees, mentors have a lot of experience. They may have already gone through the same path you are currently going through, or they may know people with similar experiences. This allows them to provide you with valuable advice and guidance on handling certain situations.
Having a mentor helps you identify areas of your life that are more important to you. This allows you to make better decisions and improve the quality of your life.
Learning to Balance Responsibilities
Most college students struggle with juggling various aspects of their lives. This can be a major issue that prevents them from developing an all-rounded personality. Having a mentor can help you find ways to manage your various responsibilities.
Network Expansion
If you are determined to work hard and have the ambition to succeed in the industry, your mentor will be more than happy to introduce you to people in the industry who can help you reach your goals. This can be especially beneficial if you are planning on transitioning from academic to industry. Most graduates report that the most considerable adjustment period they have experienced is when they first enter the job pool. With a mentor, you can be one step ahead of the competition.
