Latimer Heights Experience
My time while working for Latimer Heights

In my seven weeks of being in this program, I have learned several new things about coding. Aside from coding, I have bonded with some of my co-workers throughout the program. This internship has been very informative and helpful for me to learn more about the behind the scenes in computers and technology.
During the first few weeks of the internship, We started off with the basics in Python and JavaScript. I learned about datatypes, operations on strings, and conversion functions. These datatypes are int, float, string, boolean, and nonetype. Int represents any whole number, float represents any number with a decimal, string represents words and letters, boolean represents true or false statements, and nonetype represents a datatype with no value. We used these datatypes and other resources to create or remix some programs.
Our first project for Python was a movie ticket simulator. I utilized my knowledge of datatypes and created the program from (almost) scratch. After a couple of hours fiddling around in the code, I came to the realization that there was a guide for me to use in the instructions Karioki sent us. I unintentionally created my own code using the knowledge I gained from the internship, which was both exciting and infuriating as I had been frustrated in figuring out how to do the project only to find out, when the project was done, that there was a guide to help me in that situation. The code was a mess, but it was definitely progress in learning Python. Later on, we learned about loops and sequences which could help clean up the messy project of mine.
For JavaScript, there were visuals involved and was slightly more complicated than Python. Early into the internship, we created and designed our own websites where we would post our work. Through a step-by-step process, I was able to personalize my own website with now prior knowledge of JavaScript. Several different activities included remixing premade code and understanding it by fiddling around the settings. From randomizers to creating sound and images, I was able to understand so much about web development. I am still very inexperienced in technology and coding, but this internship has helped me to understand the basics. It has helped me build a pc and form a bond with my coworkers.
I have no particular dream job in mind, but if I ever find myself wanting a job in computer science I would be able to take it up because of this internship. This experience would benefit me in several different areas of my life. Though I’m still inexperienced, I’m open to learn more.
