The Magical Matter of Mindful Music
Every person’s story includes a teacher. I bet by reading that, you are thinking of one or two influential teachers from your past. One of mine was my high school band director, Mr. Hagen. Another was my piano teacher, Mrs. Kayser. Their guidance changed my life. I am honored to be a music teacher, largely because of them. This is my 35th year teaching at the same school.

I play with kids
His name is JJ, he is 2 years old, with a smile that goes ear to ear. His skin is dark brown, his eyes are light brown, and he laughs with his whole face scrunched together, and his arms flailing. I am a first-year preschool teacher with textbook knowledge and zero real world skills. Barely out of high school, less than 6 months in a classroom, just finding my feet. Up until JJ, I had been having fun, still shocked that someone was giving me a paycheck to play with kids. My days are hugs and giggles, diapers and circle time, patting backs and reading books. I think, my job is cool, I thought, sure I can do this as a career.

It's About the Kids
I don't have a commercial driver's license (CDL), I can't drive an actual bus, and I often transport my students in a white van (don't worry; it has windows and I don't offer them candy!) or an older Ford sedan (that used to be a drivers' education vehicle before that service left the schools and went private).

Poetic Intimacy
While the time span of 1960-1990 saw vast historical and cultural changes against the backdrop of women seeking equality, there is one word that can be used to describe the difference in female poetry written throughout these decades. Intimacy is the key definer of these generations. I feel that there are four poems that can specifically show how intimacy defines poetry during these eras, with a difference in intimacy through experience and definition found in each poetic generation.

More Families Would Opt For Different Schools If They Could
There is growing evidence that more families would opt for different schools if they could. This is clear from survey data and focus groups, from alternative-school and charter-school waiting lists, among many examples. What prevents them from sailing to a new education island is, above all, the political blockade that still seals the ports to all but a few lucky or intrepid voyagers. Visible though the new education islands and vessels may be to avid policy explorers, most people still reside on the two old continents - and don't travel much. The reasons are familiar, beginning with old-fashioned complacency about one's own school. Surveys have long shown a relatively high level of contentment - or resignation - among Americans with children in school. The familiar and nearby are often more comfortable than the distant and strange.
