Remote Learning 2.0
In May, schools in Hong Kong were allowed to reopen. You can read my experience. Before the year ended, we enjoyed a few weeks in relative normality. After a local summer surge, we were able to get back online in time for the start this academic year. The situation was managed well, and we are already planning to reopen in a more gradual manner, beginning next week. But I thought it might be helpful to share the reasons and how we developed our remote learning routines and practices.

Black Math Teachers Are Good For More Than Race Stuff
Some of us have found a way to share our stories without apologizing through the #Blackout era. White educators need to be more aware of their complicity in the recent murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Abery by police. Instead of a quick "I told you so", I am choosing to engage with this new group of subscribers with a huge feeling of responsibility and awareness, while still holding firm to my identity as well as all the anchors that kept this boat stable despite the current at its port.

What Is Design Thinking
Recently, I've become interested in design thinking in education. It is a great framework that I believe adds enormous value to learning and teaching. It is associated with empathy, agency creativity, problem-solving, cooperation, grit, and creativity. These skills and dispositions are more valuable than ever for both educators and employers. Design thinking is a powerful tool in our teaching toolkit that can enhance classroom experiences and foster deeper learning.

Where Did Education Fail Us?
My final reflection on the semester of my doctoral study (don't ask how it's going), was about what it meant to obtain an education. In this space, I have repeatedly thought about the big difference between education and schooling. The desire to teach students a particular set of ideas and materials is the hallmark of schooling. Education is the result of this process. However, teaching does not necessarily mean that someone is learning. And, even more importantly, learning does not mean that someone is in a school where schooling is taking place.

Let's Teach In Pajamas Forever
I propose to make the nation's largest public school system completely online, contrary to my public activism and advocacy. This may shock some of you who have been following me for many years. However, I may have felt a bit jealous for some my most passionate detractors. I envy their way of speaking, walking, and working as though they have the whole theory of online education figured out. Instead of fighting them with the other contrarians in my little line, I am now in complete agreement with them.
