Experience Does Not Come With Age
Maturity doesn’t come with age It comes with experiences. — Anamika Let’s define what experience is? According to the Cambridge dictionary: “(the process of getting) knowledge or skill from doing, seeing, or feeling things.” Mariam dictionary: “the process of doing and seeing things and of having things happen to you”. Ursula Staudinger, professor director at the Columbia Aging Center Hoffingtonpost “We tend to think all senior citizens must be wise — it’s one of the few positive old-age stereotypes. But it’s not true. In fact, the notion that all we have to do is wait in order to become wise couldn’t be further from reality. We actually have to work hard to become wise. We must remain open to new experiences and actively seek new challenges — and that only becomes harder as the years go by.”

Help From a Teacher Part 3
It was the first day of eighth grade in fall of 2013 for Anthony and he knew it would be trouble from the beginning. First his school bus arrived nearly an hour late. Then it traveled around the borough of Queens to pick up other students. However no one exited the houses or either aware the bus was outside. After a tiring bus ride and being the only one for the morning route, Anthony does arrive at school at nine thirty. He goes to the same homeroom he had been going to for the past two years. He was anticipating having Mr Benton as his head teacher with the same paraprofessional as he did in seventh grade. To his surprise, he instead sees a woman in her early thirties sitting at the desk where Mr Benton always sat. That is when he discovered she is Ms Brown. Anthony thought she was substituting for Mr Benton for the day until he realized that he retired during the summer and Ms Brown became the new supervisor and Mrs Wilkerson was still working there as one of the supervisor. Anthony was wondering how Mrs Wilkerson was still working in the school because of how she was. Ms Brown was like nearly a couple of decades younger than Mrs Wilkerson and a decade younger than the other teachers. Even though he was paired with the same paraprofessional, Anthony kinda hesitated to go to Ms Brown for several reasons. One, he saw her as replacing Mr Benton. Two, she didn't understand the work that Anthony and the other students were doing, which is algebra and Anthony had difficulty with it too. Three, he felt that they could not related to each other. Anthony was approaching fourteen and still felt out of place despite being in the same school for two years. At least he hung out Paul and were in the same class but he felt like they were drifting apart because Anthony was feeling more angry and depressed than ever, while Paul was unruly and had more contempt towards the school. For Anthony, things were about to get just as bad for him. During the beginning of the school year, Anthony dealt with a incident on the school bus when a sixth grader threw a empty water bottle at him. He came close of throwing it back but missed. The bus matron separated the two and gave the sixth grader a warning that she will write him up next time. A day or two later, Ms Brown came up to Anthony and asked him why he did not told about the bus incident, having to hear it from someone else. He said that she might not do enough to help him and she would not understand either. Then shave told him that she dealt with being made fun of as a child and plan to help him by setting up a meeting with other school officials in discussing the incident and what to do in the future. However since the situation was handled beforehand, she was only able to talk to her own teachers in the special education homeroom so their own students can be prepared. Anthony soon realized that he and Ms Brown were not different and finally found some common ground between each other. She told that her husband is a police officer who helps around the community and she was pregnant with her third child and was due in the early summer. Eventually she helped Anthony with his English homework and she was the first and only one to find out that he was moving to another state after graduation. Although he would not move until half a month later. Ms Brown would go into labor around June before the end of the school year. After giving birth, she returned on the last day of school, showing everyone her newborn daughter. Anthony appreciated what Ms Brown has done for him.

Dark Academia, Sculpture, and Whiteness
Dark Academia is a hyper-curated aesthetic subculture, whereby elements of academic study are turned into a visual display, often through images in which the objects that are seen to represent the aesthetic are digitally collaged together. As suggested by its defining adjective, Dark Academia has a colour scheme of dark and muted tones, the majority of images appearing in a Google Image search consisting of grey, brown, beige and white. Although it has existed as a subculture for many years, it has become widely popularised in 2020 and 2021, with #darkacademia accumulating roughly 778,000,000 views on TikTok and 700,000 posts on Instagram at time of writing, with these numbers only increasing. The popularity of Dark Academia is striking for its apparent democratisation of academic study, with TikTok creator Lucien K explaining in interview with the New York Times that Dark Academia is ‘a very open community, even though it’s about classics’. By employing Dresang’s Radical Change Theory, whereby the ‘three technology-influenced digital age principles’ of Interactivity, Connectivity and Access are used to examine and explain changes in social behaviour in the digital age, we can explain the subculture’s ability to popularise academic study: Dark Academia certainly embodies the first two principles by engaging its content creators on social media, and, perhaps most impactfully in an area still driven by class-based socio-economic elitism, it provides free and easily accessible resources by which to engage with academia.
