Internet addiction is no less than drugs
Excessive internet searching has ruined the order of many homes. Internet is for our convenience, but due to its excessive use, people are getting trapped in the trap of internet addiction.

Seema opened her purse after reaching office and as soon as she put her hand in the inner pocket to take out the key of the drawer, she felt something like fine wood sawdust inside. She pulled out her hand suddenly and turned the purse upside down, and saw that someone had kept some bay leaves in her purse. Some of them had turned into powder. When Seema looked carefully, some numbers were written on those leaves in red ink.
Seema became suspicious. When and who kept these leaves in my purse? What is the meaning of these numbers? Has anyone done any black magic? Many such questions started flashing in her mind. The whole day was spent in worry. When she came home in the evening and told the family members, her mother said, "Hey, I had kept those bay leaves in your purse. Did you throw them away?"
"You? But why? And why were numbers written on them?"Seema fired many questions at her mother at once.
"Hey, I watch Babaji's reels on Facebook. Babaji told that if you write that miraculous number on 5 bay leaves and keep them in your purse where you keep money, then your income increases miraculously. That is why I kept them in your purse. Did you throw them away?”
“Mother, you have gone mad watching this internet. My purse of 3 thousand rupees was filled with the smell and dust of your bay leaves. I was worried in the office the whole day, that is another thing. You stop watching this internet. And do not touch my purse in future.”
Seema went to her room getting angry at her mother.
Later her father also kept explaining to her mother for a long time that do not watch such stupid things on the internet. By watching internet you have made the whole house a temple. Earlier there was a temple of your God in a corner, now you have pasted your God on every wall of the whole house.
You have not left any place even to put a calendar. Earlier you used to give a few rupees to that beggar on Saturdays, now every day someone or the other stands at our door with a begging bag outstretched. There is no need to do so much charity. Nothing happens by this. These babas sitting on the internet only fool the world. They earn money themselves and prepare the way for other worthless people like them to earn money.”
Seema's mother kept listening to her husband quietly and after a while she sat on her bed and was again seen immersed in the internet of her smartphone. Actually, she has become an internet addict. No matter how much someone explains, she does not leave the phone and the internet.
She keeps searching the internet till three in the night. Whatever remedy, any trick someone tells her for the progress of the family, for the arrival of money, for jewelry and clothes, she has to do it.
This habit of hers has troubled the whole family. Due to this addiction, now neither does she go for a walk in the morning, nor does she help in any household work. After bathing and having breakfast, she lies on the bed or chair with her legs stretched out and her eyes glued to the phone. Then she is not aware of the world. If the doorbell rings, let it ring. If someone is coming, someone is going, she is not bothered. Just her and her phone.
It has been 8 years since Mehtaji's wife passed away. Mehtaji lives with his son Ashish. Ashish is a salaried person. Mehtaji has retired. Earlier Mehtaji had a normal mobile phone which did not have internet. Some 3 years ago Ashish bought him a good LG smartphone which has internet, camera, voice recorder etc.
Ashish opened his account on Gmail and downloaded Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram in his phone and also taught him how to use them. Now Mehtaji has got a new job in which he remains immersed from morning till evening.
Very quickly he made a lot of Facebook friends. There was a lot of exchange of messages and a lot of sharing of photos. He got addicted to watching YouTube, so he started watching viral videos from around the world and sharing them with friends.
After his wife's death, Mehtaji cooks his own food and that of his son. He is also very fond of cooking. Whenever he gets access to the internet, he sometimes tries out new recipes by watching videos on YouTube. But being active on social media all the time has started affecting his mind. He has started forgetting things. He gets confused about what happened today, what happened yesterday or a week ago.
He has become so addicted to his phone that many times he forgets to lock the door of the house after Ashish leaves for office. Sometimes if he puts daal or milk on the stove and comes back and gets busy watching YouTube, the daal or milk boils over and spills. The stove goes off but the gas keeps burning. This has happened not once or twice but many times. Many times, even when Ashish is at home at night, he puts the food on the stove and forgets about it.
Ashish has warned him many times that Papa, don't get so lost in your phone that you don't even notice what is happening around you. But Mehtaji doesn't listen. Phone is his life. Be it the kitchen or the bathroom, it is in his hand everywhere. Due to this, Mehtaji has even stopped meeting his friends.
Earlier he used to go to the market to buy vegetables, it used to be a good walk but now he is so engrossed in the internet that if a vegetable vendor comes near his house, he buys it or else he calls Ashish and asks him to bring it on his way back.
Ashish gets very annoyed by this. Many times his car is stuck in the traffic jam of Delhi and he gets a call from his father asking him to bring ladyfinger, then he screams in anger. Should I take the car and go to the vegetable market now? Are you crazy? Why didn't you bring it during the day? He shouts at his father.
Excessive internet searching has spoiled the order of many homes. Internet is for our convenience, but due to its excessive use people are getting trapped in the web of internet addiction.
The situation has become such that a person addicted to internet gets upset and expresses anger when he does not get data. Nowadays, most of the mental patients coming to hospitals are addicted to internet and due to that they are getting mental imbalance.
Doctors say that the changes that happen in the human brain due to addiction to intoxicants like alcohol or drugs, the same changes have started happening due to internet addiction. This shocking fact has come to light in the examination of the youth suffering from internet disorder reaching the hospitals.
The functional MRI of such youth has revealed that internet addiction affects the functioning of the same part of the brain, which is affected by addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Dr. Pawan Gupta of Internet Disorder Clinic of Lucknow KGMU has said in his interview to a newspaper that functional MRI shows the functioning of different parts of the brain, which is not seen in normal MRI.
In functional MRI of patients suffering from internet disorder, the striatal nucleus dopaminergic system of the brain was seen to be affected. This system releases dopamine hormone which controls the mood of a person.
When this system gets affected, one gets obsessed with doing the same thing again and again. Just like a drug addict cannot live without drugs, in the same way an internet addict cannot live without internet. This affects personal life, working life and studies.
When a child or an adult becomes addicted to internet surfing, initially the family members are unable to understand it. They just scold them that you are always lost in the phone or laptop, do some other work also sometimes. They do not even realize that they have fallen prey to a mental illness.
Doctors say, when a family member or your child is lost in the mobile phone the whole day, does not pay attention to studies at all, despite being scolded, keeps using the mobile phone secretly or sits with the phone in the bathroom for a long time, gets irritable if the mobile phone is taken away from him, shows aggression, gets angry or starts breaking things, then you should understand that he has become an internet addict.
Such an addict will stay awake all night using the phone, will not remember to eat or drink, will not concentrate on studies, will lose friends, will not go out to play, will not want to do any household work.
In such a situation, it is better to take him to a psychiatrist, otherwise the condition will keep worsening. If the internet connection is cut off or the data runs out, such an addict gets very upset. When a person feels uncomfortable without internet and his mood gets affected due to non-availability of data, then it can be said that the person is addicted to internet.
Internet addiction takes a person away from reality to a fantasy world. Today we are using internet extensively. All our important works, like filling forms, various types of registrations, entertainment, all are done through internet. Due to this, most of the people are becoming victims of internet addiction.
Internet addiction ruined life
Internet plays an important role in our life. Internet was created with the objective of promoting the exchange of information in the world. There is a lot of content on the internet. Before the advent of internet, we had to visit government offices for months to get our work done.
With the help of internet, today we can do many tasks from home. Internet is a great medium of entertainment.. because of this, 6 out of 10 people are addicted to internet today. The business of religion is flourishing on the internet. Astrologers are telling your future on the internet. Pandits and clerics are telling about rituals, past and future and good and bad omens around the world.
People from cities to villages are addicted to watching porn sites on the internet. Even small children are watching porn on their phones without the knowledge of their parents. Many leaders and MLAs have been caught watching porn while sitting in the house during the proceedings of the house. Most of the youth in hostels or homes are addicted to watching porn sites at night. Girls are also not behind in this.
Today, good things are being spread less on the internet and more bad things. Politicians are using the internet to make people fight in the name of religion. If religious sentiments need to be incited, crowd needs to be gathered, riots need to be caused, processions need to be taken out, protests need to be held, demonstrations need to be held, then the internet has become the easiest medium to spread information.
All kinds of frauds are happening on the internet these days. Love affairs are going on between the youth on Facebook and Whatsapp. People are fooling each other emotionally, cheating each other, causing financial loss.
The internet has become a den of cyber thugs. Your entire bank account can be emptied in one click. Your data is not safe in the 21st century technology era. Even after setting a password, your data is stolen from your mobile phone. Digital India has made people's lives easier but has also made them more unsafe.
The main reason for internet attraction
The main reason for internet addiction is entertainment. With the help of internet we can watch many movies, listen to songs and most importantly we can connect with people from all over the world. Making friends through various sites on internet is the main reason for internet attraction and it is completely responsible for internet addiction.
When we get addicted to internet, we turn on data as soon as we wake up and check notifications and do the same till we sleep. Due to this we can fall prey to nomophobia.
Our valuable time is wasted by excessive use of internet. This is not a matter of one day. Who knows how many days of our life get wasted in internet addiction.
Along with this, all kinds of people use it. Some of them have no meaning of right or wrong and can do anything for money. So, if you encounter them online, they can harm you in any way.
