Topic: Future of electric cars in America

HEADING INFORMATION

General Purpose: To inform.

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the future of electric cars in America, with its advantages and disadvantages.

Organizational Pattern: Topical order.

INTRODUCTION

I. (Attention Getter) How many of you guys ever drove an electric car before? (except those who do not have license). Close your eyes and Imagine, someday your children or grandchildren might not know, what gas is mainly use for?

II. (Reveal Topic) As today I will be talking about the future of electric cars in America or in other words rival of conventional gasoline cars.

III. (Listener Benefit/Relevance) Mark my words, In future you all have to travel in electric cars. Because there is study of (www.opb.org) which states that by 2035 there will be Zero production of gasoline cars, California and Washington are the early adopters of this rule. Soon the whole US will fall on this.

IV. (Credibility Statement) You all will think “who am I talking about this”. Over the years, when I was a child I was more into cars than anything else, with time as I grew up I am more and more enthusiastic about cars.(how many of you ever drive an EV) Specifically EV’s I don’t own any of them but I have driven most of them.

V. (Thesis Statement & Preview of Main Points) The widespread adapting for EV’s is not only to reduce carbon emissions as well as to create new jobs opportunities which also helps the economy.

A. (Preview M.P. #1): First, we’ll start with a look at the growth of electric car market, and consumer choices.

B. (Preview M.P. #2): Then we’ll talk about its technology and advancement.

C. (Preview M.P. #3): Lastly we’ll discuss about its future, what stats show and what could be the ratio between gasoline and electric cars.

TRANSITION: Before wasting a further ado. Let’s jump into my first main point which is the growth of electric car market.

BODY:

I. (Main Point #1): Growth of electric car market, or the rival or downfall of gasoline cars.

1. (SP): Consumer demand in electric vehicles.

a. (SSP): As the people are getting know about EV’s, demand is increasing and for now there is not enough supply for it.

b. (SSP): When people realize that how much they could save by shifting to electric, blows their mind.

c. (SSP): Comparatively for average usage of gasoline car would cost 300$/month but on the other hand electric car cost 100$/month by the end of the year you could save a lot of money.

2. (SP): More automakers are shifting their cars to electric.

a. (SSP): According to (www.consumerreport.org) Automakers invested about $18 Billion in the electrification in cars.

b. (SSP): About eleven years ago when Tesla takes the initiative to roll out its first electric car. At that time everybody was kind of surprised and criticize at the same time. As the time passes every automaker is trying their best to produce electric cars.

c. (SSP): The journey of eleven years till now of electric cars are, first Tesla was the only company which were producing electric cars but as of today there are about 20 manufacturers around the world.

3. (SP): Low maintenance and environmental friendly.

a. (SSP): As there is no engine in EV’s, so there is no headache of oil change or any other regular maintenance.

b. (SSP): The only maintenance of the electric cars is their tires and break pads. Other than that you are good to go.

c. (SSP): The biggest impact of EV’s in our environment is there would be zero pollution. The carbon footprint of EV’s are smaller than the gasoline cars.

INTERNAL SUMMARY: As you’ve heard that the demand is increasing rapidly. By increasing the demand, manufacture are forced to increase the supply.

TRANSITION: Now you know a little bit about EV’s so, by moving forward we’ll talk about the technology and advancement which comes with electric cars.

INTERNAL PREVIEW: Currently there are some features electric cars, which they can’t even think to bring it in any gasoline cars.

II. (Main Point #2): Regular improvement in Technology and advancement in EV’s.

1. (SP): Improvement in charging infrastructure.

a. (SSP): Companies are putting charging stations in major stores and malls, for the convenience of the consumers. As well as on the highways.

b. (SSP): The encouragement of EV’s is also supported on the government level. As they are giving compensation and relief for electric car owners.

2. (SP): Improving the technology of batteries day by day helps to keep electric cars running.

a. (SSP): Range anxiety is a major drawback in electric vehicles, by improving the technologies once a wise man said; Greater the batteries, lower the anxiety.

b. (SSP): To overcome the range anxiety companies are working on their batteries. The stats of improving batteries is growing daily. (www.news.stanford.edu).

c. (SSP): For now there are mainly two types of batteries are there in the market. i.e. Lithium ion & Nickel hydride. Where lithium is far better because of its performance and long-lasting.

3. (SP): Biggest feature in electric cars is there Regenerative breaking.

a. (SSP): This feature works like when we press break, the energy uses to charges the battery.

b. (SSP): When we go up hill EV’s consumes a lot of battery. To push the car upwards.

c. (SSP): When we comes downhill the Regenerative feature works and it charges the battery. In easy words when we are coming downhill our battery increases rather than decreases and vice versa.

TRANSITION: By talking about the demand & supply and some of the features, Finally we will jump into our final main point the future of electric cars.

III. (Main Point #3): Future of electric cars.

1. (SP): The people will not shift directly to electric vehicles having a lot of question in their mind but people will shift towards something in the middle like the Hybrid and Plug in Hybrid Vehicle.

a. (SSP): In hybrid vehicles there is a battery like any other electric car but in the higher speed its shifts to engine like any other gasoline car but in the lower speed it runs on the battery or we can say in the city drive.

b. (SSP): In Plug-in-Hybrid vehicle you can conventionally charge your battery like any other electric vehicle.

2. (SP): The auto industry is changing day by day. From all the conventional gasoline cars to all electric. There is no longer a question that “Will the electric cars takeover the industry, now the question is how long will it take”

a. (SSP): From a survey Automaker plan to invest $330 Billion in the electrification by the 2025.

b. (SSP): IHS (information handling services) Markit predicts there will be 130 EV’s models available in US markets by 2026.

INTERNAL SUMMARY: By keeping all the features and advancement daily, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

TRANSITION: After a long debate, now we’ll go over what we talk about in this presentation. In conclusion,

CONCLUSION

I. (Restate Thesis and Summarize Main Points): The widespread adapting for EV’s is not only to reduce carbon emissions as well as to create new jobs opportunities which also helps the economy. Today we talk about the consumer demand on EV’s and how the demand and supply effects the whole industry. The features which are coming with an electric car. How its effects the environment, what its actual role. And we also talk about main element the EV”s The battery and its specification. At last we talk about how people will shift to EV”s and the future of electric cars in US.

II. (Restate Relevance): We all have to shift on electric vehicles Even if we don’t want to because, There is rule that there will be no production of gasoline cars by the 2035 in California. This rule will apply to whole US after some time.

III. (Clincher Statement): The fun fact about EV’s is that The first purely electric vehicle was produced in 1890 by William Morrison having a top speed of 14 MPH. So having an electric car is not a new thing. It just revive with a new slogan Zero Emission or Go Green.
