Friendship with Books
If you want to save your precious time from being wasted, make books your friends.

Arslan and Rehan were very close friends. They studied in the same class and lived in the same neighborhood, which made their friendship even stronger. Despite being similar in age and environment, their interests were quite different. Rehan had a deep love for reading. He was not limited to his textbooks alone; instead, he eagerly read all kinds of books, including storybooks, history, general knowledge, and books full of interesting events. For Rehan, books were not just a habit—they were a way of life.
Whenever Arslan asked Rehan a question related to studies or general knowledge, Rehan always gave a detailed answer supported by logic and examples. His explanations were clear and convincing, which not only satisfied Arslan but also slowly awakened a curiosity within him. However, Arslan was usually too busy with games and outdoor activities to think seriously about reading. Most of his free time was spent playing in the ground, and he believed that books were boring and unnecessary beyond schoolwork.
One day, Arslan visited Rehan’s house. Rehan warmly welcomed him and took him to his room. As soon as Arslan entered, his eyes opened wide in surprise. The entire room was filled with bookshelves. Books of different sizes, colors, and subjects were neatly arranged everywhere. It felt more like a personal library than a bedroom.
Seeing Arslan’s amazement, Rehan smiled and said, “A book is the best friend a human being can have.”
Curious, Arslan asked where all these books came from. Rehan proudly replied that he had bought them with his own pocket money over time. Instead of spending money on unnecessary things, he saved it to buy books because he believed that books were an investment for life.
Rehan then handed Arslan an interesting book based on real-life events and encouraged him to read it. Arslan started reading out of curiosity. After finishing the first incident, he felt eager to read the next one. Without realizing it, he ended up reading nearly twenty to twenty-five pages while standing there. The story had completely captured his attention. Before leaving, Arslan requested to take the book home so he could finish it.
From that day onward, a remarkable change occurred in Arslan’s life. Instead of going to the playground every evening, he started sitting in Rehan’s library and reading books with him. Gradually, books became an essential part of Arslan’s daily routine. His thinking improved, his knowledge increased, and his behavior became more disciplined and thoughtful.
Arslan was no longer the same boy who wasted hours in meaningless activities. He now understood the value of time. Instead of spending money carelessly, he began saving it. Every month, he accompanied Rehan to buy new books. He had realized that excessive play only wastes time, while books guide a person toward wisdom, awareness, and success.
Books had transformed Arslan’s life. They became his loyal companions, teaching him lessons that games never could. He learned that books never betray, never misguide, and always help a person grow intellectually and morally.
Dear friends, if you also want to make a sincere and lifelong friend, and if you truly wish to protect your precious time from being wasted, then build a friendship with books. Books are the best companions that lead you toward knowledge, success, and a brighter future.
