A couple of months back, I was doing what I liked the most, Procrastinating using social media. Suddenly, my activity was halted by a randomly popped-up question.
What is the most powerful word in the world?
To get the answer, I thought why not ask the most reliable source of the 21st century, yeah you guessed it right GOOGLE.
After using my 100 IQ brain I finally found the answer on google which was FREEDOM. I was almost convinced with the answer until another word grabbed my attention which compelled me into thinking WHY?
Understanding the Bigger Picture
I mean like let us think about it, everything around us probably exists because of this single word WHY. WHY? Why is this? Why is that? We had questions we found our answers.
At that time my brain was still in transition when another question rushed into my head. This was by far probably the most important and difficult question that ever crossed my head and this was also something at which I couldn’t simply turn a blind eye.
So this time I had to go through proper research because this is not something that even Google can explain easily.
The Process
First of all, it was not easy at all. Finding the answer to a question like this was certainly going to be difficult. We can all agree to this thing that there are tens of thousands of articles on a topic like this over the web.
Everyone tries to explain their thoughts and their perspectives, which is a good thing and it would have worked out quite well if the answer was the same for all or at least a particular group of people but it’s not.
1. The Scratch Line
Since I didn’t know where to start and also I’m not a bookworm, it was like I was already on a journey with a flat tire.
But still, I had to start from somewhere. Right? That’s when the words of Simon Sinek inspired me to start without a plan.
“Always plan for the fact that no plan ever goes according to plan.”
~Simon Sinek
So I started looking for other people’s research, blogs, and articles, and no matter how much I read and try to absorb the stuff.
My brain still felt like a glass that was full and empty at the same time.
Their perspective and their explanations were only good to understand the basic ideology and outline of the Topic.
But the answer I was looking for was still way out of sight, and that was the point where I decided to dive a little deeper.
2. Collision of Aspects
Clearly, simple research with blogs and articles didn’t work. Now to find my answers I had to take a different direction.
This time I turned towards a little more engaging and effective method (for me), the Podcasts and scholarly videos of different scholars.
Since the question was not bound to any belief or faith so I decided to stay neutral and dig my way to answer through both aspects.
On the one hand, we have the modern world and its theories and on the other, we have different beliefs and religions.
● The Modern World
According to the modern world, we have the ideology of life as achieving our goals, having a better lifestyle, having money, a house, cars, etc. which in a way can be considered an answer.
For those who do not want to see the bigger picture and just go with the flow of life, this is just fine.
But I was not looking for that kind of answer. I was in search of something more, that’s when I came across this quote.
“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”
~Fyodor Dostoyevsky
On one hand, where people define life as money and cars. On the other hand, we have people like Fyodor Dostoyevsky having this kind of perspective of life.
This is for someone who simply does not want to be convinced by a simple answer. Someone like me.
● The Religious Aspect
This was a different side and to be honest, a newer one as well because we do not normally pursue this path until there is a serious need.
We like to stick to the modern and scientific methods for our problems and solutions, Right?
At this point, I had started watching and reading to people like Dr. Israr Ahmed late philosopher from Pakistan, Jim Rohn late author and entrepreneur, Naval Ravikant the co-founder and former CEO of AngelList. Etc.
And here is what I found from these big brains people:
“Only religion can answer the question of the purpose of life. One can hardly be wrong in concluding that the idea of life having a purpose [at all] stands and falls with the religious system”
~Sigmund Freud
“Every man has two lives;
And the second starts when he realizes he has just one”
~Naval Ravikant
According to them, the key to knowing the answer is to understand what one’s religion tells him about the way and meaning of life, and I can’t agree more because it’s our religion that defines who we are and where we belong in this world.
And every religion holds the same perspective when it comes to being a good human and being a helping hand in this world.
All we can do is become the best version of ourselves and make our way into people’s lives with love and kindness.
3. Conclusion of My Journey
After the proper and in-depth evaluation of everything that I found on my way to finding my WHY of life.
The important thing that I understood was the meaning of life is to prepare and construct the book that I will leave behind me in this world, MY BOOK.
It’s all about my actions, what I did in my life, for the others, and for myself that will help the people I left behind about and also about who I was and what impact I had if not on the world then at least on the people who were connected to me.
And of course what I took for myself that going to help me in my afterlife.
Finding ‘Why’ of your life
The question itself is not that hard but the process of finding the answer can be a bit thought-provoking for almost everyone. After all, we don’t get to find such answers every day.
What could be your Answer?
If you are still wondering that if your answer can be the same as someone else? Then I might suggest you stop right there. Because no matter how much we try to relate ourselves to that someone else out there, our life is still different than theirs.
It’s the question that every human has to resolve for him/herself like what could the answer be?
Every answer will be different from one person to another and that’s the beauty of it.
It’s the one thing that we don’t have to compare or compete with somebody as we do in our professional and daily life.
Because if it did then it would just be a challenge for us to complete before anyone else and leave the sense of satisfaction behind.
And even if someone somehow gives you the answer, which is unlikely, you will still be left with a continuous loop of questions because no matter how you get it, it’s still someone else’s answer.
Now it is completely on you if you want to spend your time the way most of the people are doing or you want to find your sense of purpose in this life, the way those big brains people or… someone simple, like me, found it.
