PARENTS BE AWARE

By MAGIC MAYSTERYPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

The most important thing to remember is just because some of these signs exits in a child doesn't mean an automatic diagnosis of autism. however the more these behaviors occurring in your child the more concerned one should be. the key here is consistency and frequency of these behaviors.

1)HAND FLAPPING- some children does hand flapping in there early development period but pay attention to how long this behavior lasts. if the child goes out of these behavior generally around 3yrs of age its nothing much to worry about but if the same continues then its something to be concerned about. this is an example of self stimulation or stimming as it helps to calm the child with autism.

2)FREQUENTLY WALKING ON TIP TOES- it may be confusing ton some as some children are least attempted to walk on there tip of toes at some point of there life. just pay attention to how of fen the child does this behavior.

3)REPEATED HEAD BANGING- due to the rocking motion it helps to keep the child calm. however its very important to take the child's attention and redirect them to avoid any potential damage.

4)POURING DRINKS BACK AND FORTH- this is another example of streaming though every child likes to play with water and blow bubbles in there milk the key here is that how long this behavior lasts. generally it may last for 5-10min to hours depending on the severity of autism. look for the extreme obsession and repetitions with objects.

5)VERY AGGRESIVE BEHAVIOR- all kids behave aggressively at some point of time. but if a kid does that immediately after being punished as if they are enjoying stimulation as they get stronger response from others as they become aggressive. u may notice the child being more aggressive than a typical child for no obvious reason like wanting something with another child has such as a toy.

6)LACK OF RESPONSE TO VERBAL COMMANDS / VOICE- every child does avoids there parents words at some point of life but a typical autistic child will be noticed being in there own small little world.

7)MISSING SPEECH MILESTONE- generally if the child is using a few words at an age of 3 its an cause of concern or if a 4-5 yr. old child is not using basic sentences its an cause of concern. Also when the child constantly repeats some words not like an learning way but an broken words way .

8)PROBLMES WITH FOOD/ TEXTURES AND CLOTHING- many people with autism are picky eaters because of some sensory issues. it depends on the typical child behavior. if u offer some food to the child and even if the child is super hungry they wont eat it even to safe there life's. some children may be picky in there clothing like checked shirt or blue tops , some may like to wear hats always for the feeling of security and some may like to wear the dress inside out always.

9)CONSISTENT FUSSINESS OR SCREEMING IN PUBLIC PLACE- its very important to differentiate here weather the fussy behavior is due to tantrums or due to any sensory issue. best way to differentiate between these is if the child stops crying after they get whatever they want is an tantrum if not they will continue to scream and cry as if they are in some pain that might be some sensory issue.

10)LACK OF EYE CONTACT- its the most well known sign and definitely an stronger sign that autism is present.

Some other signs may also be seen in children's with autism depending on there age and severity. if you seriously think someone you love has autism please refer them to some psychologist or neurologist. Please help children with autism by educating urself and others by challenges they face everyday. the sooner the diagnosis and acceptance of autism the earlier one gives help to such child and the greater chances of early adaptations of the child to society and many social customs.
