"Dajjal: The Ultimate Trial Before the Day of Judgment"
Physical Description and Signs of Dajjal

In Islamic eschatology, one of the most terrifying and significant events to occur before the Day of Judgment is the appearance of Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (The False Conclusion
The fitnah of Dajjal is not just a future prophecy—it is a reminder of the importance of faith, knowledge, and steadfastness in the truth. His emergence will be a final and massive trial before the Day of Judgment, designed to deceive even the most devout. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned his followers repeatedly about Dajjal, describing his emergence as the greatest trial (fitnah) humanity will ever face. His arrival will test the faith, patience, and resilience of believers, and only those with strong conviction and knowledge will be able to resist his deceit.
Who is Dajjal?
The word “Dajjal” comes from the Arabic root "dajl," meaning to lie or deceive. Dajjal will be a human being, not a mythical creature. He will falsely claim to be a prophet and then eventually claim to be God himself. His goal will be to mislead people, destroy belief in the true God (Allah), and establish a global reign through lies, manipulation, and illusions.
According to authentic Hadiths, Dajjal will appear at a time of great turmoil, famine, and conflict. Many people, desperate for food, security, and miracles, will follow him blindly.
Physical Appearance and Characteristics
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave very specific details about Dajjal’s appearance so that Muslims could recognize him and not be deceived. Some of these include:
One-eyed: Dajjal will be blind in one eye. One narration mentions his right eye as deformed like a floating grape.
Forehead inscription: The word “Kafir” (disbeliever) will be written on his forehead. Every believer, whether literate or not, will be able to read it.
Young and strong: He will be a powerful man, red-complexioned, with curly hair and a bulky body.
Fast traveler: He will move across the world swiftly, spreading his deception in nearly every corner.
Nature of Dajjal's Trial
Dajjal’s trial will not be of physical force alone—it will be a spiritual and intellectual challenge. His powers will seem supernatural, which will confuse and mislead many:
He will cause rain to fall and crops to grow for those who believe in him.
He will bring destruction and famine to those who deny him.
He will pretend to raise the dead, possibly using magic or illusions.
He will carry what appears to be heaven and hell, but in reality, his heaven will be hell and vice versa.
He will have control over resources, which will tempt people to obey him in return for food, water, and wealth. Those who lack strong faith may fall under his influence.
Dajjal’s Global Journey
Dajjal will travel across the earth for forty days. However, these days will not be ordinary:
The first day will be as long as a year.
The second will be like a month.
The third will last like a week.
The remaining 37 days will be like normal days.
He will pass through every region of the earth, except Makkah and Madinah, as they will be protected by angels. When he approaches Madinah, earthquakes will shake the city, and all hypocrites will flee to join him.
How to Protect Oneself from Dajjal
Islam provides several methods to safeguard oneself from Dajjal’s deception:
1. Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf (Chapter 18):
The Prophet (PBUH) advised that reciting the first ten (or last ten) verses of Surah Al-Kahf regularly will protect one from Dajjal’s trial.
2. Seeking refuge through dua (supplication):
After every prayer, the Prophet taught Muslims to seek protection from four things, one of them being the trial of Dajjal:
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, the punishment of the grave, the trials of life and death, and the evil of the trial of the false messiah.”
3. Strong faith and knowledge:
Only those with deep belief in Allah and sound Islamic knowledge will be able to detect Dajjal’s lies and reject his falsehood.
4. Avoiding him completely:
The Prophet advised that if someone hears of Dajjal's appearance, they should stay away from him, for even strong believers might get confused by his signs.
The End of Dajjal
When Dajjal’s trial reaches its peak, Allah will send Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) back to Earth. He will descend near the white minaret in Damascus, Syria, and lead the believers. Isa (PBUH) will pursue Dajjal and finally kill him at a place called “Ludd”, near present-day Tel Aviv in Israel. After his death, Dajjal’s forces will collapse, and peace will begin to return.
