College Dropouts
Is University Degree Important

Trends in education
Many people who don’t finish college later return and get their degrees. Nowadays with so many online educational opportunities the cost has come down dramatically.
Here are some famous athletes that returned to get their degree.
My favorite is Tiger Woods, who is one the great golfers of all time left college to pursue his professional career in golf when he turned 18 years old. He later returned to complete his degree. Woods attended Stanford University for two years before leaving to turn professional. In 1996, he won his third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship and decided to leave college to pursue a career in golf.
Despite leaving Stanford early, Woods expressed his intention to eventually complete his degree. He fulfilled this commitment by returning to Stanford in 1996 to continue working towards his degree in economics. In 1998, he officially completed his studies at Stanford and graduated with a degree in economics, fulfilling his promise to his parents and himself to earn a college degree.
Here are a few more famous athletes who left college to pursue their sports careers but later returned to earn their college degrees:
Tim Duncan left Wake Forest University early to join the NBA but later completed his degree in psychology.
Tommie Smith, the Olympic gold medalist sprinter known for his iconic protest at the 1968 Olympics, left San Jose State University early but later returned to complete his degree in social science.
Earl Boykins left Eastern Michigan University early to pursue an NBA career but later finished his degree in family studies.
Cliff Lee left the University of Arkansas early to play professional baseball but later completed his degree in kinesiology.
Rudy Gay left the University of Connecticut early for the NBA but later returned to complete his degree in sociology.
Shaquille O'Neal left Louisiana State University (LSU) early to enter the NBA draft but later returned to complete his bachelor's degree in general studies.
Vince Carter left the University of North Carolina early to enter the NBA draft but later completed his degree in African-American studies.
Michael Jordan left the University of North Carolina early to pursue his NBA career but later returned to complete his degree in geography.
Chris Webber left the University of Michigan early to enter the NBA draft but later returned to complete his degree in African-American studies.
Steve Young left Brigham Young University (BYU) early to join the NFL but later completed his law degree from BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School.
These athletes are just a few examples of individuals who left college to pursue their athletic careers and later went back to earn their degrees, demonstrating the importance of education and the value of completing one's college studies.
Salaries for Various Degtees
Salaries for various college degrees vary significantly based on a number of factors such as the degree earned, the level of education, the geographic location, the industry the person chooses and individual skills. Here are general trends in 2024 in regards to average salaries for different college degrees:
Engineering degrees, such as computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, often lead to higher-paying jobs. Salaries for engineers can range from $60,000 to $150,000 or more.
Degrees in business, such as finance, marketing, and management also lead to well-paying jobs. Salaries for business professionals can range from $50,000 to $120,000 or more, depending on the specific role and industry.
Degrees in healthcare, such as nursing, pharmacy, and healthcare administration will continue to be high demand. Salaries for healthcare professionals can range from $50,000 to $150,000 or more, depending on the specific role and level of experience.
Information Technology such as computer science, information systems, and cybersecurity, are also associated with high salaries. Salaries for IT professionals can range from $50,000 to $150,000 or more, again this depends on the specific role and expertise.
Degrees in liberal arts and humanities, such as English, history, and psychology, typically have lower average salaries compared to other degrees. Salaries in these fields can range from $30,000 to $70,000 or more, depending on the specific role and industry.
Certain Universities are considered more prestigious than others but neatly all statistical surveys show where a person gets their education is less important than actual performance on the job.
Homeschooling
Another trend is homeschooling, especially for elementary school
Homeschooling has been gaining popularity for several reasons.
Homeschooling allows parents to tailor the curriculum to meet specific needs and learning abilities of their children. This individualized approach often leads to better academic outcomes along with a more engaging learning experience. Nearly all of the stories you hear about early teen children entering Universities are children that were homeschooled.
Homeschooling offers flexibility in terms of scheduling which allows families to create a learning environment that fits their lifestyle. This flexibility can be very beneficial for families with unique circumstances, such as frequent travel or children with special needs.
Many parents, nowadays, choose homeschooling because of concerns about the quality of traditional education, especially public education. Issues such as large class sizes, standardized testing, limited resources and ideological indoctrination are all considered. Homeschooling gives parents more control over what and how their children are learning. There are many families that choose homeschooling for religious or philosophical reasons, wanting to incorporate their beliefs and values into their children's education.
Another issue that surfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic is safety. In recent years, concerns about safety in regards bullying and health.
Homeschooling typically offers a lower student-to-teacher ratio, allowing for more individualized attention and support for each child. Many parents that homeschool incorporate the help of Grandparents, other relatives and friends to help with the lessons. This often leads to a deeper understanding of the material and better academic performance.
With the advancement of technology, homeschooling families now have access to a wide range of online resources. These include educational materials, and support networks.
There are other issues to take into account, such as socialization, time commitment and others.
Conclusion.
Here in 2024 we are in an increasingly competitive job market where people with the best skills have the best opportunities. In general most fields, even jobs not requiring advanced education, either provide or encourage continuing education.
