Once upon a time, a mighty king was walking on the rooftop of his grand palace. As he looked around, his eyes fell on a nearby house where a beautiful woman was hanging clothes to dry. Her grace and charm caught his attention instantly.
Curious and tempted, the king called his servant and asked, "Who is she?"
The servant replied, âYour Majesty, she is the wife of your loyal servant Feroz.â
The king, now captivated by her beauty, made a wicked plan. He summoned Feroz and gave him a royal letter, asking him to deliver it to a faraway kingdom and return with the response. Feroz, being loyal and obedient, took the letter, packed his bags, and spent the night at home. The next morning, he left on the journeyâunaware of the king's real intentions.
As soon as Feroz left, the king hurried to Ferozâs house. He knocked gently at the door.
âWho is it?â asked Ferozâs wife from inside.
âIt is meâthe king, your husbandâs master,â he replied.
Out of respect, she opened the door, and the king entered. She was surprised and said, âYour Majesty, what brings you to our simple home?â
The king smiled and said, âI came as a guest.â
But she quickly understood his real purpose. With courage and dignity, she said, âI seek protection from Allah. I do not see anything good in your visit.â
The king grew angry and said, âYou do know who I am, right?â
She replied calmly, âYes, I know you are the king. But wise people sayâno matter how hungry a lion gets, it never eats from a dead body.â
Then she added powerfully, âYou came to drink from a bowl that your servant, your dog as you call him, already drank from.â
Her words hit the king like lightning. Ashamed and embarrassed, he left in silenceâbut accidentally left behind a personal item.
Meanwhile, on the way to his mission, Feroz suddenly remembered he had forgotten the letter under his pillow. He rushed back home quietly to retrieve it. While getting the letter, he noticed the kingâs belonging lying nearby. Feroz instantly understood what had happened.
Without saying a word to his wife, Feroz left again to complete his task. He delivered the letter and returned to the palace.
Pleased, the king gave him 100 gold dinars as a reward. Feroz used that money to buy beautiful clothes and gifts. When he reached home, he said to his wife, âDress up. We are going to your parents' house.â
His wife was surprised, but obeyed. The family welcomed them warmly, and everyone was happy with the gifts. Feroz left his wife at her parentsâ home and didnât return for a month. He didnât call or ask about her either.
Eventually, her brother came to meet him and said, âTell us the reason for your silence. If not, we will go to the judge.â
Feroz agreed.
In court, her brother said to the judge, âWe gave him a beautiful garden full of fruit, fresh water, and shade, but he abandoned it.â
The judge looked at Feroz and asked, âWhy did you return such a wonderful garden?â
Feroz replied, âI did not abandon it out of hatred. One day, I saw lion footprints in the garden. I feared it might return, so I stepped away for my own protection.â
Hearing this, the king, who was quietly present, spoke up. âFeroz, go back to your garden. I swear by Allah, the lion did enter your gardenâbut it touched nothing. It only looked and left, disappointed. Your garden is still as pure and protected as it was before.â
Feroz went back, took his wife home, and never revealed the kingâs secret to anyone.
