A Child’s Words That Changed a Teacher’s Heart

A Powerful Lesson in Kindness, Parenting, and Emotional Healing

By Muhammad NawazPublished 8 months ago 4 min read
A child's gentle words can heal what anger breaks — a touching reminder that love, empathy, and wise parenting can transform hearts and lives.

A teacher shares:

"I entered the classroom and closed the door behind me. I had decided that today, I would release all my anger on the children.

I found a student who hadn’t done his homework, so I grabbed and punished him.

Then I noticed another child asleep on his desk. I pulled his arm and asked harshly, 'Where is your homework?'

He trembled and said, 'I forgot, please forgive me.'

I took out all my frustration — the pressure I was under due to my husband — on that child.

Then I noticed a child standing and signaling me to bend down and listen. Irritated, I turned and said, 'Yes? What is it now?'

He smiled innocently and said, 'Can we talk outside the classroom? It’s very important.'

I thought it was something trivial, like someone stole his pen. But what he said astonished me.

With a gentle smile, he said:

'Teacher, you are a good person, and we all love you. But the boy you punished... he's an orphan. His mother beats him badly when he makes mistakes. That's why he forgets things and is always afraid — even afraid to play with us, fearing we might hurt him.

I’m his friend and always stay with him. He told me he hates being hit. If you check his body, you’ll see bruises from his mother.

Could you be like a mother and mentor to us? And please, when you enter the class, leave your anger and worries at the door. We love you and learn a lot from you.'

I looked at him in amazement and asked, 'How do you speak like an adult?'

He replied, 'My mother taught me to always assume the best about people. She said:

“You never know what someone is going through. Set aside your anger and treat others gently.

The world is already full of pain.”

She also said:

“If you see someone upset, apologize even if you’re not the cause.”'

He hugged me and added:

'You’re angry for a reason, that’s why you hit us. I’m sorry, Teacher. Please don’t be upset. You are wonderful.'

I stood there in silence, feeling like the child, and he like the teacher. Do such mothers still exist today?

I asked, 'How can I make it up to him?'

He said, 'Here’s a chocolate. He loves them. If he forgives you, seek forgiveness from Allah and say: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi — so that a tree is planted for you in Paradise.'

I asked, 'Like the trees in this world?'

He replied, 'My Teacher, trees in Paradise are not like those here. Their fruits are soft, large, sweeter than honey, and without seeds.'

I asked, 'Can I give your mother a gift?'

He replied, 'She always says, “Anas is my gift.”'

I said, 'You truly are a precious gift.'

Anas said, 'Come on, let’s go make peace with Ahmad. I have five riyals — we can buy chocolate for him and tell him you got it just for him.'

I told him, 'Your mother is indeed a great woman. She deserves Paradise.'

Time passed...

One day someone called out, 'Miss Reham, how are you?'

I turned to see Anas — now a young man with glasses — and his mother, her face radiant with light.

Later, Anas's mother brought me a gift and said,

'You were Anas’s teacher. Please accept this gift from me. You also have a share in the good values he carries.'

I replied, surprised, 'How so?'

She said:

'Alhamdulillah, my son is now a lecturer at a dental college. But your guidance also played a role.'

Tears filled my eyes as I said:

'Thank you. In truth, it was your parenting that corrected me too.

Your son taught me a lesson years ago that changed my life.

Because of that, I raised my own children better and even improved my marriage.'

Wisdom:

A righteous wife is the foundation of a paradise-like society.

Never underestimate the role of a housewife, for she raises an entire generation.
