The human race is intoxicated with narrow victories, for life is a string of them like pearls that hit the floor when the rope breaks, and roll away in perfection and anarchy. Mark Helprin

A stringer of strings I am, a stringer of strings.

“A stringer of strings?”

A stringer of strings. The two ends of strings I tie, and a string through them I insert.

“A stringer of strings.”

A stringer of strings.

“And what may the point of it be?”

Perfection.

“Perfection?”

Perfection. Circles of string held together they are by a circle of string.

“And that represents perfection?”

Naturally.

“There is nothing natural about it.”

The Big Bang created the heaven and the earth in due course. The earth was without pleasing form and devoid of thought, and darkness was everywhere between the stars. Evolution moved upon the earth’s face and in its waters. No one said, let there be light, and there was light, nonetheless. No one saw that the light was good, and it was naturally divided from the darkness. Some Homo sapiens called the light, day, and the darkness, night, and evening and morning followed suit.

No one said, let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, or let it divide the waters from the waters. Gravity may have made the firmament, and may have divided the waters that were under the firmament from the waters that were above it, and it may have been so. Some or the same Homo sapiens called the firmament, heaven, and evening and morning followed suit as before.

Gravity may have made the waters under the heaven gather together into specific places, and may have made dry land appear, and it may have been so. Some or the same Homo sapiens called the dry land, earth, and the gathering together of the waters, seas, and no one saw that it was good.

No one said, let the earth bring forth grass, herb-yielding seed, and tree-yielding fruit, after its kind, whose seed is in it upon the earth, and it was so, nonetheless. The earth brought forth grass, herb-yielding seed after its kind, and tree-yielding fruit whose seed was in it after its kind, and no one saw that it was good, and evening and morning followed suit as before.

No one said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, seasons, days, and years, and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and it was so, nonetheless. Gravity may have made the two great lights, the greater light for the day, and the lesser light for the night, and the stars as well. Gravity may have set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth for the day and the night, and to divide the light from the darkness, and no one saw that it was good, and evening and morning followed suit as before.

No one said, let the waters bring forth in abundance the moving creatures that have life, including the shark, and fowl that fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven, including the eagle. Evolution created the great whales and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth in abundance after their kind, including the shark, and every winged fowl after its kind, including the eagle, and no one saw that it was good. No one blessed them, saying, be fruitful and multiply, fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth, and evening and morning followed suit as before. No one said, let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, the creeping things, and beasts of the earth after its kind, and it was so, nonetheless. Evolution made the beasts of the earth after their kind, cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps upon the earth after its kind, and no one saw that it was good.

No one said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, including the shark, over the fowl of the air, including the eagle, over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. Evolution created Homo sapiens with a particular image to build upon, in the image of the humanoid; male and female were created. No one blessed them, and no one said to them, be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, including the shark, the fowl of the air, including the eagle, and every living thing that moves upon the earth. No one said, behold, I have given you every herb-bearing seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree-yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat, and to every beast of the earth, fowl of the air, and thing that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat, and it was so, nonetheless. Some or the same Homo sapiens may have seen everything that was made, and beheld that it was very good, and evening and morning followed suit as before.

The circle of life, and death, is similar to a serrated string. When multitudes of lives are involved, anything pointed will appear straight. Only to the uncaring or blind. Nature is uncaring and blind.

“Surely you mean human nature, with various genocides (the Holocaust and its cohorts) standing witness. The rest is all part of evolution, and only seems to be uncaring and blind. What about the survival of the fittest? It is caring and farseeing.”

A stringer of strings I am, a stringer of strings. The two ends of strings I tie, and a string through them I insert. Circles of string held together they are by a circle of string.
