What is Loneliness?

Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the loneliness problem, particularly for those who live alone, such as the elderly or single adults. The pandemic has led to self-quarantine, social distancing, and isolation within households, limiting personal interaction and increasing the likelihood of loneliness. The role of technology in combating loneliness has increased significance in pandemic-hit regions worldwide. The use of video conferencing and online communication platforms have aided in maintaining social connections, both professionally and personally.
Thus from the above discussion, it is clear that loneliness is a severe problem that needs to be addressed for the mental and physical well-being of an individual. The issue of loneliness must be tackled within the community and on a personal level also. It's essential to identify the causes of loneliness, be it personal or social, and develop strategies to overcome it. Simple techniques, such as increasing social interactions, joining groups or clubs, and engaging in productive leisure activities, can improve an individual's mental health, physical health and overall quality of life.
