Into the Bermuda Triangle
Tales of Mysterious Disappearances

On September 2nd 2019, the British Royal Navy's Ice Patrol ship called the HMS protector sailed through the calm Waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Some of the ship's crew were on Deck and others were sleeping in their cabins. The captain steered the ship and looked straight at the Horizon. The sky was lit up by an orange Twilight and clouds floated in the distance. Suddenly, against this beautiful landscape, one of the sailors noticed a black silhouette of an unknown ship (the captain slowed down and steers the ship a little closer to it). This was an old cargo ship (250 feet long) that had been floating in the ocean by itself for many years (attempts to contact the crew members lead to nothing). There was no one on board at least no one alive (the deck of the ship creaked from rocking on waves). Five months later we're in a village named Bali Cotton in County Cork Ireland where a local leaves his house early in the morning to go for a daily Run. Music is playing in his headphones and fresh cool air is flowing through him while he runs along a scenic route - conditions are perfect for a good workout! There was a big storm last night, and now the sea looks calm. The man runs along the top of a low cliff and notices a huge ship. It's an old rusty cargo ship 250 feet long, lying on the beach right among the rocks. No people are on board it – it seems like the ship has been here for ages.
Later, it turns out this is the same ship that sailors from the HMS Protector saw five months ago. Thousands of miles away, in 2017. The cargo ship called the Alta was built in 1976. Nobody knows who used it all this time, and for what purposes – only that in 2017, the ship was purchased by a new owner and marked with the flag of Tanzania. It's important to say that almost all cargo ships have AIS (automated identification system) equipment, which is necessary to track their movements in the OU (outgoing) ocean since 2015. But something strange started happening with the altas AIS: The ship disappeared from satellites then reappeared again.
The ship has had a few different names and flags over the past few years, and its AIS signal has been turned off and on numerous times. It's not surprising that its AIS was shut off and turned on recently--some people disable AIS on their ships in order to hide their activities from authorities. The ship's Captain is unknown, but clearly didn't want the Altai's movements to be easily seen by authorities in 2017. The Alta made 12 stops in three different Greek port cities within 10 months, after which the AIS signal disappeared. 10 months later, the Alta reappeared near one of those same cities--and this time, the AIS signal was turned on. The Alta sailed 1200 miles from the north coast of Africa to Greece in September of 2018 when its engine failed about 1400 miles southeast of Bermuda. Ten crew members were aboard at that time. The ship began to drift away from the nearest shore, and it became evident that food supplies were running low. The crew started to panic, and they resorted to trying to contact the ship's captain, who was very far away.sThe situation on the vessel got worse as a strong hurricane approached, and crewmembers contacted the US Coast Guard on October 2nd. A helicopter headed towards the ship, and food and water were unloaded on the Alta. This was enough for the crew to buy their time for several days. About a week later, a rescue boat sailed about 1500 miles to reach the Alta and help the stranded sailors.
What caused the disappearance of so many ships and airplanes in the Bermuda Triangle has remained a mystery, but we're determined to find out
In 1925, the SS Cotopaxi vanished en route from Charleston, S.C., to Havana, Cuba. Years later, a wreck was discovered 40 miles off Saint Augustine, Fla. - and because specialists couldn't precisely identify what and where it came from, they dubbed it the "Bear Wreck." It took many additional years of work done mainly by marine biologists to confirm that this ship was indeed the missing SS Cotopaxi. This was confirmed in January 2020. How did the ship just reappear and how did it get there? We have yet to answer these questions, but hopefully we can with further investigation. The Bermuda Triangle doesn't even appear on any world map! There are only assumptions with approximations of the entire area ranging between 500,000 and 1.5 million square miles. Nobody has agreed on its exact boundaries - leaving it up for speculation as to what might be lurking in this vaguely triangular region.
People have been fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle for centuries. There are many legends about what happened to ships and planes that have disappeared there without a trace, but without any actual evidence to support them it's difficult to track down accurate numbers. %The% recorded story should help us get a grasp on this topic, however. Historical records show that this is a topic that goes back centuries. For example, Christopher Columbus saw a huge flame near this location in the 1400s. Later on, he reportedly saw an unusual light flashing in the distance at the same location. Many other sailors have reported similar things over the years. Based on this evidence, it seems likely that something strange is going on in the Bermuda Triangle
