Effects of Vaccinations and Infectious Diseases on Humanity

Post-apocalyptic world

The Year 2068

The roads are empty, factories shut down, zero people working at the power plants, and people only use government-regulated food not knowing if their future will ever change.

I almost forgot the feeling of walking on the naked grass, laughing with my friends, and going out with them. The pandemic took away the most exciting years of my life. When I started college in 2019, I was looking forward to having the greatest time of my life. New Year’s Eve went great with my new college friends but one thing which no one expected was the upcoming pandemic which was unpredictable and so outrageous, no one believed it could take years to get over it. The first few months were tough for the people and the government because people at the health department could not figure out what the disease was and how to fight it. Day after day we hoped and prayed for the doctors to come up with a vaccine, some anti-biotic, or anything of that sort that could cure this disease. Something which could take all the pain caused by some unknown virus and something which would be the key to going back to normal life but the doctors, the pharmacists, they weren’t even close to making a vaccine.

Some test and trial medicines and vaccines were in town. No one knew whether these would help or not, they just took it. Patients of the disease suddenly felt good and they started feeling better. That’s when the virus evolved and resisted any sort of medicine known to mankind. The virus, which was previously being transmitted only from human contact, was now present in the air as well. More and more people tested positive later who had no history of being in contact with infected patients. This was a dreadful twist in human history but it was not any different from other plagues which had some shocking results for humanity. The government imposed strict lockdown and gave strict instructions not to go out in any sort of emergency. It became illegal to even go out of the house. One would lose their mind trapped in the house but the fear drenched in the outside world was so horrifying, we all chose to stay inside.

The year 2034 brought so much hope because the doctors made a groundbreaking discovery of treating infectious people with the antibodies taken from the recovered patients. Testing of this theory was high on the rocks but that is when things started going south. Firstly, there were not much-recovered patients to take the antibodies from and then secondly, the virus was gradually evolving itself with every passing day. More and more testing resulted in the development of more and more resistance to the virus against antibiotics and vaccines. Health departments all over the world finally laid down their weapons in despair that the cure to the pandemic can never be found and it is only making the virus stronger.

The year 2053

With factories shut down and people locking themselves in their homes, the only food source left was organic food items. Farmers all around the world took it upon themselves to grow organic food and persevere in providing food but all in vain. That is when the government stepped in and helped the handful of farmers in producing organic food for humanity’s survival. It took them a little over two years to finally harmonize the influx of food with the living population.

Today, people have lost all hope, factories are shut down, roads are empty, and social distancing, which was initially a precautionary measure, has now become part of our daily routine. Government-regulated lockdowns and safety systems of providing food, groceries, medicines, and other necessities to every person possible. With a crumbling global economy and all the countries in an alliance with each other and working together to fight it, these microorganisms, completely naked by the human eye, have overcome the world and become the master species that human beings thought they once were.
