Doom, Dust and Ashes
Thoughts on the end of everything
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I remember so vividly the day the earth was no more.
All the stories we wrote, all the history we made, all the families, our homes, our lives, our loves and friendships, all gone in the awfulness of a burning fiery inferno of our own making.
We expected the apocalypse to bring about our demise by the hands of a wrathful heavenly and godlike being. That brimstone and angel fire was the end of our lot on this earth. Instead we brought about our own destruction by our impetuous uncaring and selfish need for more. More technology, more riches, more exotic ways to live our lives, more wine and roses, more wanton debauchery, the need to own more and more of what we already had. This coupled with our unwillingness to share and assist our fellow earthly brothers and sisters to enjoy and sustain themselves in like or similar manner, heated the earth beyond natural habitation, and enraged whatever god or the universe or whoever we chose to believe in.
We were therefore forced to look to the stars for shelter and sustenance. Our continued missions into space enraged the other races and species over the years and they planned and plotted without our knowledge.
"What guarantee do we have, that the people of earth will not colonize, occupy and destroy another planet the same way that they have wantonly and maliciously misused, squandered and mistreated the beautiful world that they were entrusted with to care, nurture, love and protect"?
This question was asked by every leader of every other habitable planet. We sought to gain allies up above our existing and dying world. We found only one new world out of thousands who commiserated and were willing to see our point of view. We needed somewhere new to relocate our people and almost no one wanted us.
Our one ally, Planet Orion Z-10, was threatened with damning and awful repercussions should they assist us in the habitation of outer space. But we were a determined and stubborn people. Still we explored and still we searched for a habitation up there to relocate our people.
We found it after a long arduous and thorough search, and an extremely expensive investment in space travel, training and building the required technologically engineered ships to enable commercial travel beyond the vacuum of space. All this time earth withered slowly away.
Despite extreme warnings, climate change, evidence to specify and detail the gradual and dangerous deterioration of our world, still we partied on towards our ultimate demise and quietus. We never listened or learned.
Like a God they watched and observed us in silence, openly and with our complete knowledge. We dared not attack as all of our resources were deployed into the relocation of an undeserved and foolish people that our species had all become. We were outnumbered and hated. So we too watched and bided our time to leave earth behind if we could. The cards were greatly stacked against us. War was an always imminent reality based on fact.
On the fateful night which was earth's last day before it's extinction and subsequent rebirth, our people randomly disappeared.
Thousands were suddenly unaccounted for. The ships of the observers were also gone or no longer visible from earth.
But, I was on the ship. I saw everything! I was one of the thousands!
I screamed from the vacuum of space!
Can they hear me from all the way down there?
Fire rained down upon the helpless earth as people tried to find shelter! No one wanted earth people. They chose to save a handful that they thought was worthy to exist among them.
I remember thinking "Maybe these beings, whoever they are, maybe they are our gods. Maybe we deserved our fate".
As I watched my world burning, I slowly started to see a new world rising from the ashes.
A better, kinder and more caring world that will have learned from the mistakes of those who were too inured to self to listen and care.
I cried for my people.
Then I turned to face the new challenges of change that lay ahead. We must do better the next time around.
We are the new protectors of our planet Earth!
The new plans and ideas were already spinning around in my head!

Hopefully, we will find solutions to save our planet, despite all the greed, corruption, carelessness and waste, that seems to be dragging us all in a downward spiral of doom. I still have a degree of optimism in reserve.
