this is the hard to find Ayam Cemani. Whats even cooler, is that everything down to its bill and tongue is as dark as black paint that can’t absorb light. One of these chickens can sell for 6,000 bucks! It's eggs can sell for up to 16 bucks each. Ayam Cemani begins in Indonesia, however even here in Java where the chickens are local, it actually takes real hard work to raise a first rate all dark chicken.
They are a challenge to track down, and if you manage to get a decent one, you better take care of that thing like your life depends on it. Strangely, even though they’re chickens, and they’re fertilized (can lay eggs), people don’t usually eat them. Better question, for what reason, and why are they so dang expensive?
Firstly, How did they even get all black anyway? They didn’t roll on mud like pigs, nor did they paint themselves black. These types of chickens comes from a hereditary transformation called fibromelanosis . Normal chickens only certain cells discharge black pigmentation. But for Ayam Cemani’s, fibromelanosis causes almost every one of the cells to discharge pigmentation to the organs and bones. Weirdly, the eggs aren't all black. You would expect it to be, I did as well, but its just the standard off white color. Speaking of eggs, the first egg the chicken lays, usually gets given away for free. It's a sort of mystical belief that the first egg, when eaten, will result to expecting mothers (of course if a woman ate it). People really take care of these.
A huge drawback to these, is that they have a really weak immune system. An egg, sometimes dies after 7-10 days, even when they're about to hatch, they die. So it really takes pure hardwork and dedication to breed these. To make it even worse, they don't have a guide, so they have to go through the process of trial and error. But going through it is what makes it all worth it. Going back, that's why breeders usually give them proteins, and spray their cages, incubate the eggs, and of course, a bath every week. and a lot more just to make them generally more healthier, protect them from bacteria, and make complete masterpieces. The food they give varies from breeder to breeder. Some use chilli (they can't taste spice), leaves, and other things to make them bigger.
But getting one of these, is no easy task. A country like the US for example due to government limitations on the two sides reproducers in the U.S can't get their hands on these chickens effectively so what you need to do commonly is find someone in an alternate country that considers you to import from them so for instance, they could be imported from Canada. Usually men do. These feelings of power can be accomplished either by having a good body, or having a girlfriend, having a lot of money, generally having more of something, people usually don't get. Getting these chicken will defenitely, get people feelings of power, cause they're so rare, and hard to breed. Odd investment if I were you, but people are different.
