Bizarre Animals That Actually Exist
Animals you might not believe are real
There are animals on earth that look like they've come straight out of a nightmare maybe even another planet.
One look and you might think these bizarre creatures were a figment of someone's imagination, some fitting for a horror movie but all of these animals are very real!
Goblin Shark
Within the deepest darkest depths of the ocean is where you will find the most bizarre sea creatures.
One such deep sea creature you will find within these ocean depths is the goblin shark and it is no doubt one of the more hideous sea creatures out there!
What makes the goblin shark especially scary is its flat and elongated snout. However it is the jaw itself full of long pointed teeth that makes the goblin shark the most bizarre.
A goblin shark's jaw is protrusible which means the jaw can extend forward from the mouth. Not only can the goblin shark protrude its jaw out at an impressive length, it can do so incredibly fast at a rate of 3.1 meters per second as it ambushes prey.
Since it lives in the deep ocean, a part of the earth humans have limited access to, little is known about the goblin shark.
Humpback Anglerfish
The deeper you go into the ocean, the stranger the creatures get.
The humpback anglerfish (the female more particularly) is truly a fish from your nightmares and you might be familiar with this bizarre fish if you've ever watched Finding Nemo.
This terrifying fish can be found at depth between 100 and 4,500 meters below the surface of the ocean.
The female being significantly larger than the male at 20 centimeters long compared to only 3 centimeters long has a noticeably large head with a mouth full of sharp long teeth.
While it's large mouth full of teeth might be the most formidable thing about it, what truly makes it so bizarre is its built in illuminated lure which is attached and dangles from its head.
The lure, also called an esca, serves as a tool to lure in unsuspecting prey.
Imagine seeing a blue glow in the deep sea only to come face to face with this monstrous fish!
Horned Lizard
This creature has a defense mechanism that is both remarkable and terrifying.
It might first appear as a chill lizard basking in the desert sun but when the threat of a predator is evident and there is no escape, the horned lizard will do something terrifying and downright extraordinary. It will shoot blood out of its eyes. The blood which is horrible tasting effectively distracts a would be predator as the horned lizard makes its escape.
If both its spiked body or its camouflage doesn't work to deter predators, then and only then will the horned lizard shoot blood out of its eyes as a last resort.
Glass Frog
Imagine an animal in which you can see straight through its skin and see its organs. Whether you consider it gross or fascinating, such a creature really does exist!
The glass frog has skin so transparent that you can see its organs. While their backs are a lime green color like many frogs, it is their underside that is translucent and the most extraordinary. This ability makes for a fascinating and impressive camouflage. In a way, they have an invisibility super power!
Some of these animals like the humpback anglerfish and the goblin shark have remained elusive and have been rarely seen by humans. This just goes to show these creatures, as bizarre and extraordinary as they are, are a perfect example of just how amazing the world is and that there is still so much we don't know about it.
