My thoughts on 'GOD'

Whether you are a believer or non-believer in God, I ask you to set aside your thoughts about God for a moment. These are my personal thoughts on the subject.

If we were to ask a cat, "How does a lightbulb work?" the cat would most likely respond, "I don't know." This is because a cat lacks the human-level intelligence required to understand or explain such a concept. Similarly, if God exists, then God must be far beyond our level of intelligence. We are like the cat in this scenario—unable to comprehend or explain what God truly is, and perhaps we never will.

I don't believe in the portrayal of God as depicted in most religions. In many religions, God is portrayed as a benevolent figure, often as a human, an animal, or some other kind of creature who only does good things (though some traditions, like those of ancient Greece, depict gods with both good and evil traits). If God exists, I believe that God would be all-powerful but neutral—not inherently good or evil. As humans, we tend to define actions as "right" or "wrong," but I don't believe that God operates within such boundaries.

I have a question for both believers and non-believers: Why do we assume that "God must care about us humans"? Why should God care only about humans? In my opinion, if God exists, God's purpose is likely to be maintaining balance in the universe or something similar. Ultimately, I don't know what God's purpose is, but I don't believe it involves taking care of only humans. Why not also take care of other living or non-living organisms? God would know what to do, regardless of our concerns.

In conclusion, I don't know whether God is real or not. But if God exists, I think they know what to do, and God would be beyond our imagination/limitation. These are just my opinions.

  • I'm not an atheist but an agnostic. I love the example of the cat and lightbulb. I too believe this is beyond our comprehensive capabilites. And yes, we humans are not superior so I agree with you!

Interesting thoughts, Murali. I love how you use logical deduction with the cat and the lightbulb. Made me think of the Bible verse Isaiah 55:8: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. In reply to the other questions posed: 1 John 4:16 - So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. Psalm 145:9 The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. In summation: John3:16 For God SO loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whomsoever believeth on Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We all have our opinions on this subject. My belief is that God cares for all living beings from humans to lowest insect.
