My Biggest Issue with the Finale of Stranger Things

Will we actually see main characters die?

I finished watching Vol. 2 of Stranger Things on Christmas, and I have to say, I did enjoy the buildup to the final episode. The writing was powerful, and it felt satisfying to see our characters finally be honest with one another in heartfelt ways, knowing that the end is near.

And while I did enjoy the character journeys and their mini battles with Vecna, I only have one concern about the final episode.

Are we actually going to see our favorite characters die?

And is it going to be a decent chunk of them that are going to be perishing in the final battle in the Upside Down?

In recent years of watching several television shows, I have noticed one thing that happens in every single final season of these particular shows.

The writers 'hesitate' to kill their main characters in the final season.

When it comes to the final season of a huge television show, the writers tend to leave too many characters alive. While I do understand that some characters should never die, I don't get why the writers don't want to kill their main characters in the final season.

If it's the final season, why not go out in a bang?

I know that many of us fans are going to be sad when we see our favorite characters die, but isn't that the point of some of these TV shows? We are supposed to feel the pain and emotion when our favorite characters die, and that to me, is great writing on the behalf of the people behind the creation of any popular television show.

One show that I was disappointed with, when it came to the final season, was The Walking Dead.

I actually haven't seen the finale, but because I accidentally heard about some spoilers while in college, I learned that many fans were pretty upset with the final season.

This problem was directed toward only one thing about the final season.

And it was all because too many characters were left alive.

This really confused me upon learning about this, because The Walking Dead is known for killing off multiple characters. These people live in an end of the world scenario filled with zombies…and apparently the fans didn't get to see too many people die in the final season.

I feel that writers nowadays are scared to kill off their characters.

It's a weird trend, and I wonder why writers are scared to do this.

Is it because they signed off on stupid deals with spin off shows?

(I can't stand spin off shows anymore. I'm planning to write a future article for this later).

Are writers worried about some kind of retaliation from the fans with killing off their favorite characters?

If this is true, that is pretty odd, since it is the final season.

Again, I do love each of these incredible television shows, but I'm tired of seeing the trope of 'being afraid to kill our favorite characters off' from the writers.

Personally, I'm cool with it.

I love becoming invested in a great character, only for them to be taken away from me in a horrific manner. I know how crazy that sounds, but depending on the show that I am watching, I expect to see a lot of people die in the final season.

Hopefully the Duffer brothers won't leave me disappointed.

Since our main characters are heading to the Upside Down for one last final battle, I am expecting a huge number of deaths.

At least 5 deaths sounds about right to me, for the kind of battle we are going to see on December 31st, 2025.

How do you guys feel about final seasons when it comes to killing off characters? Are you a bit mixed on the final episode of Stranger Things too?
