Whispers from the Mirror
Unveiling the Hidden Truths of the Past and Future

Whispers from the Mirror
Written by: Taiyeba Irin
Tanha sat by the window of her old house. The sun was slowly fading, casting long shadows on the ceiling as the trees outside stretched their branches, creating strange, mysterious patterns. There was a feeling of unease inside her. Something seemed missing, like a void, a sense that something had been lost. Lately, everything seemed different, not as it used to be. Since returning to this old house, she felt an invisible pull, an unseen force, urging her to find what was missing.
Every corner of the house seemed to hide a secret, a memory she had unknowingly forgotten. She had spent much of her childhood here, with her parents, relatives, and friends. But those days now seemed blurry, distant. The forgotten memories kept haunting her, but she couldn’t reach them. If she could, she wouldn’t be asking herself, “Why did I return here?”
There was a small mirror in this house, one Tanha knew held many secrets. Once, she had looked into it with fascination, wondering what her future might hold. But now, it felt as though her reflection was different, strange, as if something was wrong. There was a sensation, a feeling she could never shake off. She remembered once seeing herself in that mirror and wondering if she could become a psychologist, but she never realized how much that mirror would change her life.
Today, Tanha decided to look into that mirror again. But this time, she was filled with a sense of anxiety. She suspected something might happen, something strange. Slowly, she stepped in front of the mirror, feeling an odd shiver run through her body, the same feeling as before.
“Tanha...” a voice whispered. At first, she thought it was just her imagination. But then, she heard it again, “Tanha…” She turned toward the mirror, her own reflection showing an unsettling emptiness in its eyes. It felt as though she was forgetting something, something that had been chasing her for years.
Tanha stood still for a moment, feeling as if the mirror was about to unlock the most hidden truths of her life. But she also knew that opening that door could lead to an unknown darkness. Fear crept inside her, but strangely, it pushed her further into the mystery.
"Do you know, Tanha, that the mirror is not just a reflection… it’s the door to forgotten truths?" the voice grew clearer. Tanha exhaled slowly, stepping closer to the mirror. Something was drawing her in, as if she was being led down an unknown path of her life.
Then, the reflection in the mirror changed. She saw herself in a different setting – an old house, one she didn’t recognize. It looked familiar, yet unfamiliar. She wore old, plain clothes, remnants of a past life. But was this her life? Or a memory of a forgotten time?
“Do you believe this life is just an illusion?” the voice echoed once more. Tanha felt it – a hidden truth, one she had never known. Her life had once been submerged in darkness, and now, through the mirror, that darkness was spilling out.
Suddenly, a flash of light flickered across the mirror’s surface, and Tanha saw herself again – back in that old house, in another time. But now, she knew this wasn’t an illusion. There was truth here, and to uncover it, she had to go back.
Her reflection, like another person, seemed to be trying to communicate something, a message she needed to understand. Tanha felt that her life was moving toward a new chapter, but this chapter was entwined with an ancient mystery, a part of her past long lost.
She closed her eyes, then opened them again, locking eyes with her reflection. Now, she realized that this reflection was not just hers – it was a fusion of her past and future, a strange intersection of time and existence. Every choice, every path had led her to this moment.
Now, Tanha knew that before her lay two paths: one that would lead her back to the confines of her past, and another that would take her toward an unknown future. The future was uncertain, but she understood that to unlock the mysteries of her life, she had to walk down that path.
Her feet moved forward, slowly but surely. She knew this path would lead her into a new world, one filled with fear and mystery. But something inside her, an invisible force, was compelling her to keep moving forward.
Inside the house, a quiet peace lingered, yet Tanha felt her life was now stepping into a new reality. The reflection from the mirror seemed to tell her that life was nothing but a test, a journey in which she was trying to find herself.
The End
