The Pedo Killer: Steven Sandison

Why Steven Sandison killed Theodore Dyer

By Rare StoriesPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Steven Sandison took the life of his cellmate, Theodore Dyer, after learning that Dyer had sexually abused a 9-year-old child. Dyer's attempts to rationalize his actions to Sandison fueled Sandison's decision to commit the murder. It should be noted that Sandison is already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing his girlfriend in 1991.

51-year-old Steven Sandison pleaded guilty to committing second-degree murder against 67-year-old Theodore Dyer on October 29, 2014, at the Saginaw Correctional Facility. The facility is located at 9625 Pierce in Tittabawassee Township.

Theodore Dyer who was originally from Grand Haven and was serving a 25-year minimum sentence for first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under the age of 13.

Sandison reportedly confessed to the police the day after the murder, stating that he asked Dyer about his conviction which he revealed but went on and on trying to justify his actions, which led Sandison to physically assault him. He told the police that after rendering Dyer unconscious, he used Dyer's shoelaces to strangle him to death.

During his guilty plea, Sandison admitted to the murder and reiterated that he felt no remorse for his actions. He stated that he did not regret what he had done or feel any sympathy towards him but expressed some sympathy towards Dyer's family. He also said that "People think I'm some kind of hero, when I'm actually not. I just did what I thought was best in the time I was given," Sandison continued. "I've been getting these emails saying that, you know, it's not my position to judge anybody. I want to make it quite clear that I didn't judge him. I know God is the only judge we have. I just set the appointment up".

Jugde Borchard sentenced Sandison to the highest punishment possible, which is life imprisonment with the possibility of parole and was then transferred by the Michigan Department of Corrections to the high-security area at the Ionia Correctional Facility to serve his sentence.

Several comments from Reddit Trend on this Steven's case

I know Steve personally. His attorney for this murder is a friend of mine and that is how we connected. I was compelled by his story. He suffered some very profound and depraved sexual and physical abuse as a child and it deeply scarred and altered him. I've visited him in prison probably 10 times and we have exchanged hundreds of letters and emails. And at least 100 phone calls. He has some endearing child-like qualities that are easy to like. But he is also extremely manipulative. And an extremely dangerous person. After spending a very significant amount of time with him and growing to genuinely like him, I can say confidently that he is a danger to society. I strongly believe in rehabilitation and that people, including many murderers, can go on to be productive members of society.

Not Steve. If there is anyone who should never see the outside of prison walls it's him. He is a killer. He does it because he enjoys it.

Another user believed Steve was no hero,

Idiots keep cheering this guy's name as if he is some sort of Vigilante crime fighter. Nope, He is a psychotic and violent criminal with a long history of minor and major crimes on his sheet. He murdered his girlfriend and confessed to people that he murdered several others, He seems to take great joy in the fact that he killed somebody and friends that know him say he spoke of killing several other people over a range of things.

Yes he had a man standing in front of him who was an accused molester. The man was near 70 and pleading his innocence. Steven didn't want to hear it and went into a rage fit and killed the guy. Odds are he will kill again and odds are he'll wear it as a shield in prison. The guy who killed the pedo. Instead of the guy who murdered his girlfriend. Leaving out his GF didn't deserve it and his victim here was potentially innocent or that his victim was defenceless against him.

One thing is common with most sex-offenders, they never stop until they are stopped. Maybe Steve shouldn't have taken the laws into his hands.

Many people loved what he Steve did, according reports, his cell number had to be changed after donations kept pouring in non-stop for him.
