An evil couple who attempted to kill their friend in a revolting act of torture have been imprisoned.

Despite their attempts to place the responsibility for the 'inhuman' violence that the police described on one another, Hamblin and Whinham were both found guilty of attempted murder during a trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

Whinham received a 21-year sentence today, while Hamblin received a 29-year sentence.

Mr. Binks recalled the brutal incident that he said left him psychologically and physically damaged during the trial.

Jessica Whinham, 21, reportedly mocked Mr Binks as he lay with his organs exposed

He was standing over me with a knife, I couldn't understand. I thought I was dreaming. I started thinking I'm badly injured here. I was bleeding profusely.

'Jess [Whinham] was mopping up the blood. There was a bit of flesh. I thought it was my liver. I was in a dream-like state. It was so surreal. Jess took the bit of flesh off me and put it in the bucket. Jess said: 'We've got your heart out, it's in the bucket.'

'I had no strength at all, my guts were hanging out. I think I went into survival mode. I remember thinking: 'I'm not dying here, I need to survive.''

Mr Binks said Whinham said: 'It's done, it's done, you're dead, it's over, you're dead.' He added: 'I honestly thought he was going to kill me.'

Whinham played a song that he had previously told her he didn't like, telling her it was "the last music you'll ever hear."

Jon Hamblin, 43, subjected his friend Paul Binks to a horrific torture-style attack.

Before the couple brought him to the bath, Hamblin placed a phone charger around his neck and tightened it with his foot on his back till he heard it creak.

Mr Binks said: 'Jon [Hamblin] put the hot water on and said he was going to drown me. I said: 'No, no, don't drown me, it's one of my worst fears.' I said 'just stab me'. He said: 'It's dead peaceful man, you will be alright, you are going to die anyway, you might as well have a peaceful death.''

According to Mr. Binks, Whinham switched to using the cold tap because she felt like her gas was being wasted on him by using hot water.

The man was informed by Hamblin that he was "essentially already dead" and that he would be "chopped up and put all over North Tyneside." Mr. Binks was eventually told he may leave after making a promise not to reveal what they had done to anyone.

A judge at Newcastle Crown Court branded the couple dangerous and said they must serve at least two-thirds of their sentences behind bars

Mr Binks was eventually permitted to leave after pleading for his life, and he showed up in the early hours of the morning, bleeding heavily, at the home of a stunned couple, and nearly died on his journey to hospital.

Mr Binks had seven separate knife cuts to his ear, chest, back, and arm, one of which had gone into his liver.

He also suffered a neck compression injury as a result of the charging cord being used as a ligature.

Mr. Binks might not have survived if it hadn't been for the quick thinking of Rex and Harleen Werewolf, who provided first aid as he approached their door.

He had no pulse on the way to the hospital when the air ambulance arrived.

Hamblin, of Stirling Road, North Shields, has a criminal record that includes robbery, assault, affray, aggravated burglary, and attempted robbery.

Whinham had no previous convictions.

Hamblin was jailed for 29 years and while Whinham was jailed for 21 years.
