"Who Killed Sara" is a Mexican murder mystery drama originally entitled "¿Quién mató a Sara?" Netflix released the series on March 24, 2021.

The TV series has ten episodes ranging from 36 to 45 minutes long. The plot follows Alex Guzmán (starring Leo Deluglio, young; and Manolo Cardona, adult), framed for his sister Sara's death (Ximena Lamadrid) by the Lazcano family. Sentenced to 30 years, he has been serving time for the last 18 years.

Throughout the fast-paced ten episodes, we will discover many details and clues about the events that, apparently, lead to Sara's tragic end. The series will undoubtedly keep most of its viewers on their toes, making them think at some point that anyone can be the killer, as there are too many suspects, making it almost impossible to determine the culprit if there is one.

While in prison, Alex devises a vendetta against the Lazcano's clan. Set on clearing his name and taking revenge for his sister's death, he believes Rodolfo Lazcano (young, Andrés Baida; adult, Alejandro Nones), Sara's boyfriend is the culprit.

The series begins moments before the tragedy. Sara, her brother Alex, and the siblings Jose Maria and Rodolfo Lazcano venture out to go parasailing on a speedboat. The parachute breaks and Sara falls to her death.

[Spoilers ahead!]

Rodolfo Lazcano

The first line of investigation in the series is based on Alex's perspective. He believes Rodolfo killed Sara because his father Don César tricked him into taking the fall to keep the Lazcano's out of the crime spotlight. However, we will soon discover how this hypothesis is farfetched. Namely, when Alex gets help from a mysterious anonymous whistleblower introduced solely as "Diane the Huntress."

José María (Chema) Lazcano

Chema is in love with Alex, and when Sara finds out about it, he becomes fearful that she might spill the tea about his actual sexual orientation. For a while, the plot seems to point to Chema as the murderer because of his family's rigid principles and thinking how the patriarch would probably be infuriated and lash out at him if he found out. After a while, we are also forced to abandon this line, as new clues point to more suspects.

César Lazcano

César was the mastermind behind the plan to frame Alex for the murder, as he convinces him into taking the fall, therefore taking the Lazcano family out of the picture. The patriarch is a vicious hunter, a womanizer, and an abuser. That's clear from how he treats his family, lover, and the women exploited in the Casino's basement. However, late in episode ten, César says he's not a killer, and at this moment, I believe he is telling the truth.

Sergio

César's right-hand man Sergio is a brutal sadist showing signs of severe psychopathy and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He played a part in Flor's disappearance and the cruelties inflicted on several other women. Sara finds out about his true nature when she stumbles upon his stash of tapes containing the recordings of several women being tortured, probably to death.

Elroy and Mariana Lazcano

The plot leitmotivs point to Mariana Lazcano being the criminal mastermind. After finding out about Sara carrying her husband, Don Cesar's, baby. In an awkward scene, the matriarch reassures Sara that she will be taken care of in the future. Furthermore, Mariana encourages her to start doing all the adventurous things that she won't be able to do later in her pregnancy.

This is a blatant admission of Mariana's motive when she suggests Sara should try out the new parasailing chute. The plot thickens when she gives Elroy the pocket-knife supposedly used to damage the parachute's harness and, afterward, when she pretends to call an ambulance. Mariana cleaned up the boat, the crime scene. It's also hinted that Mariana murdered Elroy at the hospital to cover the tracks if her minion decides to spill the tea.

Although they have the motive and means for the murder, there's no hard evidence that they did indeed kill Sara. Hence this is a dead-end line of investigation.

Who Killed Sara?

In the last moments of the series, after Alex finds Sara's secret journal, we learn how Sara struggled with psychological issues showing signs of dissociative disorders, a disconnection, and a lack of continuity between thoughts, memories, surroundings, actions, and identity.

While reading the journal, Alex realizes he was wrong about everything and all our theories until that moment collapse like a house of cards. Sara wasn't an upright, innocent girl; she was disturbed, hearing voices and showing erratic thoughts.

Looking at the dates on Sara's journal, they don't correlate with the time of death. The final entries were penned at the end of August. Sara tombstone shows August 9. This assumption also made me realize that we never saw Sara's dead body, and we all know how one of the tropes of a murder/ mystery is that until we see a dead body, the victim is presumably alive.

If Sara is indeed alive, what happened to her baby? Could it be that Bruno is, in fact, Sara's and Cesar's child? To know the answer to this new question, we will have to wait until the new season debuts on May 19, 2001.
