The group's leader, known only as "The Professor," is introduced as a mastermind who has planned every detail of the heist for years. He communicates with his team from a remote location, giving them instructions through earpieces.

As the robbers begin their mission, tensions run high between the hostages and the criminals. One of the robbers, Tokyo, takes a particular interest in a young hostage named Alison Parker, and begins to develop a relationship with her.

Meanwhile, the police are alerted to the robbery and begin to gather outside the mint.
