CHAPTER FIVE
On the road, he updated John on his recent findings and he responded by giving him a bad news. The worst that Jason had ever heard in his life.
“Man, there’s something you got to know ………Shoun is dead.”
Jason slammed the breaks and the car screeched to a halt in the middle of the road. Breathing slowly, he said, “Are you serious?? What happened??”
“Yes, he was poisoned. He was alone in his office and somebody had poisoned his drink.”
“But………………”
“Listen man, I am sorry, he was my mentor too remember but we can’t do much about. I am just saying you should concentrate on your mission at hand.”
Jason didn’t respond he was too shocked to hear anything else. He knew he shouldn’t divert from his mission but he couldn’t stop imagining how it was possible for a man like him to die. He was one of those persons who could smell poison in their drinks.
John continued, “And one more thing, I know it is not the right time but there was a meeting held and it was decided that I will take charge of the order.”
Now Jason was even more surprised he didn’t even know the
John had the capabilities of being a leader or even leading a small team but nonetheless he replied, “Congrats bro!”
“Thanks man but I don’t think I can be half the leader that Shoun was.”
“True”, Jason thought, after exchanging a few more words he hung up. Jason still couldn’t overcome the feeling of suspicion, he knew something was off and it was up to him to find out. Nevertheless, for now he decided to concentrate at the task at hand and mourn later.
In order to get to Mt. Jungfrau, Jason had to first get to Kleine Scheidegg from where he will have to take train to the mountain. It was a long ride to Kleine Scheidegg and when he finally made it, he was exhausted. It was nine in the evening when he finally arrived and unfortunately, there weren’t any trains at that time to the mountain. Therefore, he decided to settle for the night in a hotel and head for the mountain next morning.
He found a hotel and booked a room for the night. When he headed towards the elevator, he suddenly froze. There walking towards the elevator was Jane Reeves. He got into the elevator before her and hid behind three others who were already there. She got in and pressed the third floor and they waited. Jason looked at his keys and found that his room was on the fifth floor, he cursed silently but didn’t make a move. She looked just the like in the photograph brown hair and fiercely determined eyes. The only difference was that she looked more intimidating and more beautiful in reality.
When the elevator stopped at that third floor she stepped out and turned left. Jason followed her with his hand around his gun inside his pocket. However, when he turned he found her an inch before him, staring at him. Her eyes bore into his, and he knew he should shoot her. However he couldn’t move, it was like one of those moments where you know what to do but you just can’t move a muscle. Jason had heard of such experiences from his colleagues but never in his entire career had he feel into such a situation.
After a moment or two, she reached into her pocket and Jason braced for her shot. However surprisingly she took out a piece of paper, tucked it into his pocket and walked away.
