Making Deals, Taking Money, Ruining Lives
Written By: Hudson De Witt Kelly
America may not have been very honest when it came/comes to the war against drugs and Narcos that started in 1965 and seems to have no real end in sight. Why would nations allow long term traffickers and there seems to be a long list of them to destroy lives, families, cities, futures, governments and themselves in the end.
If that is the case, why is there this continued glamorization of drugs within the entertainment industry when countless celebrities and everyday citizens around the globe lose their lives to make billions of dollars for others who seem too never have any real enjoyment besides chasing more money and even more power?
In the beginning the intent may have been wanting to do the right thing but then it directed itself along a different path that focused on the inner city. There is so many intersecting stories that lead down the same path drugs and dealing them end only in death.
Not just bodies but morals and so many other narratives such as long-term prison sentences, poor behaviors and social skills because the dealer is working for someone who makes these decisions that hold weight over communities.
I will use myself as the example. I grow up in a household with no real parent supervision (drugs seem to never discriminate between the boss, the dealers, the users, the wives, the children) and I am searching for a way to belong, and I get introduced to El Chapo and he asks me "what can you do for me?" Already he has established a power over me, and I respond, "I don't know."
So, he then dismisses me, and I am left with an open-door situation because next time I see him I am walking alone, and he offers me a ride. I have a choice not to take it which by the next five no's there will one day finally be a yes.
He has prepared (groomed) me to want to be a part of his world because I don't have access to one of my own yet not knowing that I may now not live long enough to make my own path because for now I am ripe for his attentions and affections.
Now more than ever we are seeing this plot play out in front of us, not just for entertainment purposes or in economically challenged neighborhoods or just within the racial divide we are all now vulnerable to such a front as you see with Anna Delvey who masterminded herself to a better life despite it ending up in Rikers Island, and the vegan goddess Sarma Melngailis who comes off as someone to open minded for her own well-being and these are just a few because even Jussie Smollett and Chris Ward have respectively taken extreme matters to stay in control of their narratives.
Everyone seems to be seeking something even myself as much as I know that I am not meant to be in this world alone; my childhood to young adult trauma make for a constant reminder on why I am better off that way, because it's so easy to get caught off guard with trying to decipher ones actions over their words and we may be hitting a tipping point of having to process more bad news then we are of news that bring more pleasant emotions.
This is no longer just a battle of good vs. evil we are now facing a crisis of too much information and not enough time to process it and even enjoy stories that are more lighthearted, fun and just pleasing to more positive senses, so I am hoping that the tide will shift to victory rather than deceit.
