Justice Rising Part Four
The search for Justice ...

She didn't need redemption. She had done nothing wrong but trust the system she once championed. Now the people who once were friends were becoming part of the problem. Two years ago, everyone adored her. She hadn't been able to get anyone to speak to her in two years that had ever known. She hadn't been in jail or a hospital, she had been victimized by the protectors. She held on to the world she knew, where crime got investigated by police officers, the bad people went to jail and victims got more than a piece of paper with a police report number on it.
She tried to focus on studying for law school but she knew she had to make sure that no one got hurt like she had. That a trumped up charge of being arrested for walking to buy a soda, didn't negate the felonies that the police had committed. She sat at the computer wondering when the protectors would protect again, when rapists and animal murders would be brought to justice, when people who had committed crimes would be arrested. It was a lot to handle, but she tried the only way she knew how with the truth. She had never lied a day in her life, and telling the truth so far hadn't gotten anything fixed. She wasn't about to start lying now. That didn't solve anything, but lately neither did the truth.
She should being babysat by a U. S. Marshall pending the arrest of the corrupt and criminal. She wasn't. She had become afraid of law enforcement. Every cop she had ever known despised bad cops. They looked at them as tarnish to their shield. She always just called it like it happened. No one had ever accused her of lying with the exception of one deputy in Augusta, and he had just merely reduced her to tears when he had. She should be the protected one. Protected until the corruption had been rooted out and eliminated.
She was trying to rebuild her life one step at a time alone , because no agency would do anything. She wrote, she studied, and she made sure that even people who had hurt her for so long were safer than she was. She was taking steps towards the dream of a baby, and law school, just super hard to do alone. She missed her life that was before all of this and she needed it back so she could put was bad behind her and move forward.
The reputation of everyone else should be being questioned not hers. So for now she did what she did, she made sure people were safe that had abandon her, muddled through the migraines, tried to build something from the nothing that was and work through the lingering nightmares. A lot for anyone but she knew a better world and tried to hold on to it. She had the encouragement of a few people, the memories of the people she had loved and who had loved her and she held hard to those. She knew even if she couldn't get anyone to stop coming up with wild accusations that only added insult to injury that there were people that if she could ever get to would rain hellfire down on everyone involved.
Every morning she remembered her adopted father and how much he had loved this woman who simple asked him for a job. How much he trusted her, how much he would move heaven and earth to get her some measure of justice. He would never question her motives because she had none other than justice. He would simply protect her, and destroy everyone who had been a part of what was done to her. The people who did this would be safer behind bars, because he would leave it alone if the system were to get her justice, but he would also make it his dying mission to obliterate everyone who had hurt her if they didn't. She knew that. There would be nothing she could do to stop him. So she held on to that someone in the world thought her to valuable to ever be lost. She may be suffering now and forever with the memories of what those meant to protect had done, but she was not responsible for what someone might do, and would do because she had seen him do it before.
