Human trafficking

How it starts.

so I wrote a short story on human trafficking of children, and what to look for and what happens to these kids during their captivity and after their rescue. So now I want to tell you about two specific incidents I have seen, heard about, and lived through.

I stayed in a 4 star hotel in Kaunas, Lithuania, one year, and made conversation with the receptionist during some down time I had. She young, absolutely beautiful ( supermodel material), university educated. She was very unhappy with her status in life, and could not see her way out. The job was underpaid, very long hours, she was underpaid and overqualified for it, but had no choice. There was no jobs available for her except this type of work. Anyway, while we were talking, she told me about an incident that happened to her a few weeks before. She was at the desk when a well dressed, good looking Italian man approached her and complimented her on her looks, stating she was wasting her talents on this job, and he had an offer for her to consider. He handed her his business card which identified him by name and company, which was a modeling angency In Milan, Italy. He said he was a talent scout. He told her she would make lots of money working with him, and would be on the covers of several magazines within the week if she signed up now and took advantage of his offer, and she was so lucky he had stayed in this hotel and that he had bumped into him. He would be leaving in the morning and she should come with him back to Italy, he would pay her travel expenses and accommodation in Milan.

this is a comman ploy to hook young women into the prostitution trade, and she knew it. So obviously she turned him down. She told me of an acquaintance of hers that fell for a similar line several years before, and to this day has not been found. She said the police investigated, and that she was tracked to Saudi Arabia from Italy. Her talent agent was a phony, and was a known criminal. They prey on desperate young women and they end up as forced prostitutes in foreign countries.

another situation I came across was slightly different, but it had terrible consequences for the young lady. She went out to a bar for a drink, but her friend never showed up to join her. So she had a drink, and danced with a young man her approached her and asked for a dance. She left her drink on the bar.unattended. When she came back to her drink, she finished it and then started to feel funny. The young man helped her walk outside, and is all she remembered until she woke up alone and naked in a hotel room the next morning.

she had been roofied. Raped. Against her will. She found her clothes, got dressed, and left the hotel to go find her car. It was parked on the street. She made the mistake of swigging some alcohol from a bottle she had stashed in the back, just when a policeman drove by. He saw her, and arrested her and booked her into the local jail. He wouldn’t listen to her story. That was when I got involved. I’m an attorney, and went to her arraignment to represent her. I got her released on her own recognizance, with my wife taking responsibility for her. We listened to her story, spoke to the deputy district attorney who had been assigned to prosecute her, and I got her sentence reduced to a misdemeanor, and just a fine and community service. Basically that’s where it ended. We were never able to find the young man who drugged and raped her. Her life after that was ruined, her brain was affected, irreparably damaged. She couldn’t hold down a job, became homeless, didn’t trust any one. But at least she wasn’t kidnapped and enslaved. Small consolation.

This was a hard but good story to read. I had a similar situation happen to me about four years ago. An unexpected number showed up on my phone. I answered it and it was some guy asking me if I wanted to make some money to get out of debt. He told me that I would have to leave all my stuff at home and just leave with the clothes I had on. He also said I won't be talking to my family or friends anymore. I said no I'm good thanks anyway. He ended up finding out where I lived and would come and knock on my door repeatedly or he would try to come in through my window. I called the police but by the time they showed up he was gone. I thought I was safe. But then one day I was going to the store and ther he was standing outside in on my lawn. He grabbed me and I was so scared that I just started screaming at the top of my lungs. My neighbors dog heard me and came running out of his yard and attacked the man. Letting me get away. I called the police and waiting for them to show up the dog stood over top of the man protecting me until the police showed up. I'm glad the woman got away, I'm sorry for the ordeal she went through I hope she's doing better today.
