The year was 1861. A young beautiful woman named Paula Pabilita Angel was just 19 and her beauty was the talk of the town. She had all the men in town wanting to court her. Paula’s mother did not approve of any of the men in town that tried to court her daughter. They were not up to their high-class standards.

Paula and her mother had money and were from a very prominent family. Anyone that courts Paula had to be above standards. Must be from a very wealthy family as well.

Juan Miguel Martin rolled into town. When Juan and Paula saw each other for the first time, it was love at first site. Juan was from a very well-known family in a neighboring town. They had money so this is one man Paula’s mother finally approved of.

During the courting process, Juan convinced her to give up her virginity. In 1861 a woman's virginity was all she had. She had to keep that until she had gotten married or she would be shamed in town. She would humiliate the family. Just something a woman did not give up in those days.

Juan convinced her she will be marrying him so she could give her virginity up to him. She really believed that they would be married. However, Juan was keeping a few secrets. One secret was he loved to see the ladies of the night in a neighboring town. He was publicly going to see the prostitutes with no shame. Eventually, word got back to Paula and she was devastated. She would be shamed and no one would ever want to marry her now that she would be considered promiscuous. She still wanted to marry Juan to avoid embarrassment.

She went to the town where he was having these affairs. She asked him one last time about marriage and what he is going to do. He had been drinking and let it all out. He said he would never marry her. Laughing at her for being such a fool. He turned to walk away and she stabbed him. 3 times she had stabbed him.

Woman out to kill made by the author in Night Cafe

Juan being from a very prominent family, and having a lot of money, Juan's family made sure she got the worst sentence. They paid off the judge and hired a very sleazy lawyer.

Then in March of that same year, Paula Angel was convicted of first-degree murder and they sentenced her to hang. The sheriff that ran the jail where she was held until the hanging day, was so mean. He tormented her every single day. Every day he laughed at her telling her how many days she had left. Scaring her more and more as the days went on. The sheriff barely fed her. She was so weak.

The day arrived. The whole town was there to watch the hanging. Sheriff asshole did not care about her and wanted her to struggle and suffer while being hanged so he did not follow protocol and left her hands untied. She used her hands to try and pull the rope away from her neck. While she was doing that the sheriff tried to pull down on her legs to get more pressure on her neck.

The townspeople were getting enraged with the sheriff. It was an unwritten rule that if you do not die from being hanged, it was an act of God that saved you and you were not to be hanged again. She could have run but she was too weak to even move.

The sheriff did not care. He grabbed her put her back into the noose and made sure to tie her hands this time. This time he succeeded in killing her.
