The Melody of your Heart

Two Melodies

By Violet Moon Published 5 years ago 13 min read

Hey! My name is Luka Moon, I'm 22 years old and I'm... complicated?

I'm a college student, and I upload some videos every now and then, to YouFlue.

I love what I do. I'm majoring in Music, while I upload some beauty related videos to my YouFlue channel. I have amazing friends and a job at a cafe, very close to college. Life looks pretty decent, but the reality is that everything was not like this... nothing is ever that easy.

Not more that a month ago, my own parents kicked me out of home. You all should be wondering, What did Luka do to get kicked out of his own home?

Did Luka rob a bank? Did Luka killed someone? Did Luka helped someone get out of jail?

What did Luka do?

Well, the answer is... I told my parents I was gay.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. That's it? Just because you're gay? Well, my parents are very complicated.

On top of that, there's this little thing... just a tiny detail...

Apparently, we're all made of music. From the moment we're born, we have a melody that belongs to us. This melody is unique, because there's no such thing as two people alike. Yeah, not even twins. And as far as I know, I'm the only person who's able to listen to those melodies.

So, sit down, get some popcorn, some candy if you'd like, and maybe some drinks, 'cause this is the moment when the rest of my life started.

**********************************************************************

-Okay Luka, calm down. Think for a while. What can you do?- Luka said, almost in a whisper while walking back and forth in the bus stop, with his bags in hand. He had just been kicked out of home by his own parents.

-Okay, breath. We can go to the cafe, buy a coffee, and sit down for a while. The will help a little bit.- Luka said. He was already on his way to the cafe.

It didn't took too long for him to get there, that's why he got that job, on the first place.

It was your typical cafe, with beautiful tables, some lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling as the hanging lights, some plants and cute decorations. His father would say that the place was just for teenagers to pretend to have a life that was no theirs. His father was not a fan of those places.

Luka went inside the cafe, actually happy to know that Hyun, his best friend and co-worker, was not supposed to work that day because of a thing he had with his family. Luka search with his eyes for an empty table or a free chair at the bar.

The cafe was not really packed that afternoon, but he knew he couldn't stay there for that long. It was getting darker by the minute, and he still had no place to spend the night. Luka found an empty seat at a table in the back of the cafe, and went all the way there. He left his bags in one if the corners, right next to the table he was sitting at, and just got up to order a coffee, using his employe discount, to save some money. It only took a couple minutes, and then he was at the table again.

The only thing that crossed Luka's mind, was searching for a new place to stay. Maybe an empty room, or a shared house close to college. It was going to be cheaper that way, so he could take advantage of the small amount of money he had saved. He started to search on his phone for some places listed online, that were not as expensive.

-Luka? Hey! What are you doing here?- Luka heard a voice call him. He raised his head and found his boss right in front of him. He was a still a young man, in his late 20s. Dark hair, asian like eyes, not too tall but not too short, but very well built. He looked so big, Luka was a little bit scared of him.

-Martin! Heeeey!- Luka said, kinda embarrassed. That's a situation in which you definitely want to avoid anyone you know.

-How are you? Are you going on a trip? I don't recall you asking for free days.- Martin said, while sitting on Luka's table, just right in front of him.

-Oh... Y-yeah! I'm going out of town for a couple days. I asked for a week off, remember?- Luka said, hoping for his boss to actually believe the lies he was saying.

-Luka, I've known you for a while and I know when you're lying. Tell me, what's happening?- Martin said, giving Luka a caring look. Luka sighed. -It's just that... well, it's complicated, but the thing is that I can't go back home to my parents, and I don't have a place to spend the night, so... I'm trying to collect my thoughts while drinking a coffee and searching for a place to stay. At least for tonight.- Luka said, not even looking to Martin's face. He was so embarrassed, his cheeks started to flush

-Okay... I take that you're not comfortable telling me the reason why you're not going back to your parents'?- Martin said, looking at Luka's turned face. A lot of thoughts going through his head, while trying to figure out Luka's.

-Not really?- Luka said, finally looking at Martin's face. A couple of tears were forming on Luka's eyes, but he was fighting not to cry. He needed to calm down and have a clear mind, so he could figure out how to get out of that situation.

Martin sighed.-Okay, listen to me. There's this small room in the back of the cafe. We usually use it as storage, but if you help me move some of the boxes to the other storage room, yo can stay there. We used to rent it to another employee, but he left last year. The rent is pretty low, and I can deduct it from your next payment, if you're okay with it.- Martin said. Luka was already a good friend of his, and a good employee. He would help him as much as he could. -Really? There's no problem with it?- Luka said while looking at Martin. His eyes were shining some much, he looked like a puppy. Martin gave him hope.-Yeah, it's completely fine. Come and help me with the boxes- Martin said, while getting up.

Luka got up too, and quickly came around the table to hug Martin tightly. -Thank you so much, Martin. I will pay you back, I swear.- Luka said, while hugging Martin. Martin was not expecting the hug, but he finally accepted it. -Oh, you WILL pay me. You have to pay rent, don't forget it that quickly.- Martin said, with a cheerful tone.

Luke just looked at him and quickly got his bags and moved to the back of the cafe, while Martin followed him and laughed at Luka's happiness. He looked just like a kid with a candy. After a couple of hours, Martin and Luka finish moving the boxes to the other storage room, they made the bed that was stored in the same room, and finish organizing the room. -Luka, I wanted to ask you... Why didn't you ask your friends to let you stay with them, at least for a couple of night? Wouldn't that help you a little bit while you search for another place?- Martin said, curious.

-Well... I know that Hyun lives with his parents, but they're out of town. And Matt lives alone... but I just don't want to be a bother for any of them. I wouldn't really feel good doing that. I don't even feel good staying here, but I don't really have another place to go, and at least I'm paying you for these.- Luka said, while sitting on the bed and looking at Martin. Martin just nodded, letting Luka know that he understands, even if he doesn't. Luka and Martin finished their conversation, and a couple minutes later, Martin said goodbye to Luka, and went home. It was late night already, and the cafe was already close. Luka changed his clothes, put on some pijamas, and went to the employees bathroom to brush his teeth. -Is just for a month. I'll start searching for a place, starting tomorrow, so I don't have to be a bother for anyone.- Luka said, while looking at his reflection in the mirror.

He walked back to the room, lay down on the bed, and covered himself with the only blanket he managed to pack in his bag, before his parents kicked him out. He slowly fell asleep, thinking about how beautiful would be to find a place for himself and start his new life. Tomorrow was going to be a new day.

A month went by really fast, and Luka was unsuccessful in his search for a place. He would spent every free second he had, searching for places, visiting some, checking if they were what he needed... but it was really difficult to find a good place. The ones close to college, were too expensive. The cheap ones were too far. The ones in a central spot, always had something wrong... noisy neighbors, broken walls, no water, no power... you name it. Who would've known that looking for a place was so difficult? And there was also the fact that Luka was running out of money. Between transportation to the possible new places for him, food, stuff for his classes and of course, the rent, he basically had no money. If Martin deducted the rent from his next payment, Luka would not have enough money to eat.Luka was thinking about his possibilities, while working his shift at the cafe.

-Hey Lu, are you okay? You seem distracted- Hyun said. Luka's best friend, no more than 5 ft 6, a short guy compared to Luka's 5ft 8, green eyes, purple hair, kinda skinny. He came back a couple of weeks ago, and was working the same shift as Luka, that day. -Eh? Oh... y-yeah, It's fine.- Luka said, Aidan brushing off the situation, but going back to his thoughts.

-Hey, what is it? Tell me.- Hyun said. He knew Luka, they were best friends.

-Is just... I'm trying to figure out what to do for next month. If I stay here, I won't have enough money to even eat next month.- Luka said, desperation in his voice.

-Come stay with me! I already told you, you can stay. My parents are okay with it, you've known them since you were little.- Hyun said, putting his hands on Luka's shoulders, trying to calm him down a little bit.

-Thank you, Hyun, i appreciate it. But I don't really want to be a bother for any of you. It's fine, I''l figure it out.- Luka said, giving Hyun a beautiful smile.

-Gosh, why are you so stubborn?- Hyun said, rolling his eyes at Luka and moving back to the cash register.

-WAIT, I GOT IT!- Hyun yelled, scaring Luka enough to drop some of the milk of the coffee he was making. Hyun just quickly went to the back while Luka just laughed a little bit, finishing the coffee while thinking how strange his best friend was.

By the end of the shift Luka and Hyun were really tired, but Hyun had a very smiley face, making Luka wonder what was going on.

-Hyun, I don't trust that smile. What are you planning?- Luka said, looking at Hyun with a curious look.

-Me? Planning something? Naaaaah, you're tired Lu. You started seeing things.- Hyun said while hugging Luka from the back. -You don't hug me unless you want something from me, or just to mess up with me... but you're being too nice to messing with me. What's going on, Hyun?- Luka said, suspicious, but returning Hyun's hug.

Hyun released Luka from his hug at the same time that the bell from the cafe's front door, rang. Luka raised his head to tell the customer they were closing, until he realized who that person was.

-M-Matt? Heeeey! What are you doing here?- Luka said, cheeks completely red while looking at Matt's serious face.

-Hey Matt, what's up?- Hyun said, smiling.

-Hey Hyun, how are you doing? thank you for telling me about Luka.- Matt said, showing Hyun a smile, and then turning back to look at Luka with a serious face.

-Ohhhh, he said Luka instead of Lu. You are in trouble~.- Hyun sang, while looking at Luka.- I will let you guys talk. Bye Matt, bye Lu, see ya.- Hyun said, while taking his stuff and leaving the cafe.

-Hyun Lee, don't you dare... leave- Luka said, while looking at Hyun leave the cafe. After looking at Hyun leaving, the only thing that crossed his mind, was Matt.

-Luka, we need to talk.- Matt said, crossing his arms in his chest while looking at Luka with a serious manner.

Luka sighed while taking his apron off.- Okay, sit down.- Luka said, while looking at Matt's face. His cheeks were still red. -I'm good, thank you.- Matt said, while sitting on a table and waiting for Luka. Luka finished the coffee he was making for himself, and sat down with Matt on the table. He focused on his coffee.

-Lu, why didn't you tell me what happened with your parents? I could have helped you. You know I can do that!- Matt said, looking at Luka, waiting for him to raise his head.

Luka took a sip of his coffee, and raised his head to look at Matt, showing the pain in his eyes. He disappointed him. That's why he didn't wanted to see his face.

-I know Matt, and I'm sorry, I really am. I just that... I don't want to be a bother to anyone, and I know you don't think I'm a bother, but I still feel like I am. Also, I want to do things by myself. I can't rely on you forever.- Luka said, trying to put into words what he was feeling, trying to make Matt understand him without hurting his feelings.

-And what are you gonna do now? You have to move this weekend! It's already Thursday, Lu. Do you have a place already?- Matt said.

-Hyun told you everything, didn't he?- Luka said, in a kinda fun tone.

-Of course he did! If not, I wouldn't had a clue!- Matt said. Luka heard the pain in his voice.

-I still don't have a place to stay... But I'm working on it! I have a couple of places to check tomorrow...- Luka was saying but Matt cut him.

-Lu, tomorrow is Friday. If those places are not what you need, you'll have nowhere to go.- Matt said.- Please, stay with me. It's my own place, so you don't have to pay for rent, and it's close to your college.-

-But Matt... I...- Luka was trying to find another excuse, anything, to avoid staying with Matt, but he was running out of time and Matt had good deal.

Luka sighed.- Okay, I'll stay with you... But only until I get to find a place! After that, I'll move out.- Luka said quickly.

-I'll even help you move when that happens.- Matt said, with a big smile on his face. Luka smiled too. Seeing him happy, made him happy.

They continued with their conversation, and after a couple of hours, Matt left, not without telling Luka that he was gonna help him move his stuff to the apartment on Sunday.

When Sunday arrived, Luka was nervous. It was going to be his first time living with someone other than his parents, and even though it was one of his closest friends, he still couldn't avoid the feeling.

Matt arrived early, and help Luka moved his stuff from the room to his car. It wasn't that much, but Matt still insisted on helping.

-Matt, are you sure? We can still move the things back into the room. It's okay.- Luka said, inside the car, holding his hands together while looking at Matt putting on his seatbelt.

-Lu, there's no backing down now. We're going home.- Matt said and turned on the car. Luka let out a big sighed and put on his seatbelt on. They were going to what now would be, his new home.

It was just a short trip, and after that, Matt and Luka started moving all of Luka's things to the apartment.

It was a big place, and Luka knew it, but he still looked surprised while going inside. Four rooms, 3 bathrooms, a big kitchen, even bigger living room. He even had a piano!

If you take a look at Matthew Kim, you wouldn't think he's the owner of such place. Especially not with his old jeans and simple shirt on. But what can you expect from one of the biggest creators of YouFlue, with one of the biggest channels in the platform? Having millions of subscribers and millions of views on every video... well, it has its perks.

Luka was still looking around the place, when Matt talked to him.

-Well, this is the last thing. What do you think?- Matt said. It was not the first time Luka was at Matt's place, but he was still so amazed. And now he was going to live there.

-It's still as big as always.- Luka said, with him big shiny puppy eyes.

Matt laughed. -Well, now you live here. The three of us living here together. It's going to be so much fun!- Matt said, looking very excited.

-Yeah, It will... Wait, d-did you said "the three of us"? What do you mean "the three of us"?.- Luka asked, confused.

-Oh, didn't I tell you? I have a roommate.- Matt said, giving Luka a "sorry" smile.

-YOU WHAT?!- Luka screamed. He was shocked. The was unexpected.

Almost as if it was planned, Luka heard some keys on the other side of the front door. The door opened, showing a person on the other side of the door. A really big muscular guy with long white hair, purple eyes and a leather jacket, looked confused at the two guys inside the apartment.

-Eh... Hello?- Said the tall white haired guy. But Luka completely ignored his words, because the only thing Luka could think at that moment, was...

-Wait, did his melody just changed?-
