The Last Message
The last message she would ever send

Catie had been scrolling through old photos of her and Dom on her phone when she stumbled upon a picture that had been taken on their one-year anniversary. They had gone to a fancy restaurant, and Dom had bought her a beautiful necklace. Catie had been so happy that night, and it made her heart ache to think about how things had ended between them.
It had been a month since their messy breakup, and Catie still couldn't shake the feeling that she had left things unfinished. She had sent that message to Dom, hoping to find closure and make things right before he left for his new job across the country.
But now, with the news of his passing, Catie felt like there was so much left unsaid. She wished she could have told him how much she loved him and how sorry she was for everything that had happened.
Catie's mind was filled with regrets and what-ifs. She wished she could turn back time and do things differently. But deep down, she knew that it was too late for that.
She reached out to Dom's family, offering her condolences and support. They were all in shock and struggling to come to terms with what had happened. Catie felt guilty for not reaching out sooner, for not making more of an effort to stay in touch with Dom's family after the breakup.
As the days passed, Catie found herself retreating further into her own thoughts. She was struggling to process everything that had happened and was consumed with grief and regret. She couldn't help but think that if she had just said the right words in that last message, things could have been different.
But then, one day, she received a letter in the mail. It was from Dom's family, thanking her for the kind words she had sent in her last message. They told her that they had read it to Dom while he was in the hospital and that it had brought him comfort in his final days.
Catie was speechless. She couldn't believe that her message had reached Dom, even if it had been too late for them to reconcile. But the fact that he had received her message of forgiveness and kindness gave her some peace.
She started to think about all the good times she had shared with Dom and how much he had meant to her. She realized that even though they had broken up, the love they had shared was still there. It was a love that would never fade away, no matter how much time passed.
Catie decided to honor Dom's memory by doing something positive. She started volunteering at a local charity, helping others in need. She knew that it was something Dom would have approved of and that it was a way for her to channel her grief into something productive.
As she worked, she found herself feeling more and more grateful for the time she had spent with Dom. She knew that their relationship had been flawed, but it had also been full of love and laughter.
Eventually, Catie realized that she didn't need closure or a perfect goodbye to move on from the past. What she needed was to accept what had happened and find a way to honor the love she and Dom had shared.
She started writing letters to him, pouring out her thoughts and feelings on paper. It was a way for her to say everything she had never gotten the chance to say, to find closure in her own way.
In time, Catie began to heal. She never forgot about Dom, but she was able to move on and find happiness again. And she knew that no matter what happened in the future, the love she and Dom had shared would always be a part of her.
