(Dark Romance - Part 6)
“Look Neel, I’m really grateful to you all. You took care of my Brishti like your own family when she was sick. But don’t forget one thing—Brishti is my wife. So, the farther you stay away from her, the better it’ll be for you. You have no idea how dangerous I can be when I’m not in a good mood.”
Saying this, Shrabon gave Neel two soft slaps on the back and walked away with a devilish smile. Neel just stood there helplessly, watching him go.
After Brishti was discharged from the hospital, Shrabon brought her home. He had asked Neel’s parents to visit too, but they declined. “Neela will come to our house tomorrow anyway. We’ll meet her then. No need to go today,” they said.
As soon as the car stopped in front of the house, Brishti got out and went straight to Shrabon’s room. Shrabon was a bit surprised by her behavior and followed her. Brishti ran her hand across the photos on the wall, then looked at Shrabon and asked:
“Are these pictures really of me?”
“Yes, Brishti. These are your photos. I had them taken secretly, without you knowing.”
“Why secretly?”
“Because even back then, just like now, you were always trying to stay away from me.”
“But I was your wife back then, wasn’t I? And I had all my memories intact. Why would I want to stay away from you?” (She frowned)
“That’s a long story, Brishti. Let’s not talk about that now. Go freshen up and come downstairs for breakfast. It’s already quite late.”
Shrabon left after saying that. He seemed totally normal—no anger, no intimidation. That made Brishti even more confused. She started thinking:
“The more I see him, the more it feels like I know him. I feel this strange pull toward him. I’ve never felt this way about Neel. Could it be that I really did love him once? But why can’t I remember anything? Why are all my memories gone? Then again, why does he feel so familiar, so warm… even in just this short time?”
Feeling a bit down, Brishti took out a yellow dress from the wardrobe and went to the washroom. After freshening up, instead of going downstairs, she stepped out onto the balcony. She noticed the guitar still lying there. She picked it up and sat on the swing, trying to play a few chords.
At that moment, Shrabon walked into the room with a plate of food and called her.
Brishti got up holding the guitar and asked:
“Do you know how to play the guitar, Shrabon?”
Putting the plate down on the table, Shrabon looked at her and replied:
“Yes, I do. I used to play and sing for you. But after you disappeared, I never touched it again.”
“Can you sing something for me now? I don’t remember anything from before, but seeing this guitar makes me really want to hear you sing.”
Shrabon stared at her for a moment, then smiled softly.
“Sure, I’ll sing. But first, come eat something.”
Brishti smiled and agreed. She sat down to eat, and Shrabon lovingly fed her with his own hands. She ate like an obedient child.
After they finished eating, Shrabon wiped her hands and took her to the balcony. Sitting beside her, he picked up the guitar and asked:
“Any song you want to hear?”
Brishti smiled warmly and replied:
“Sing whatever you like.”
Shrabon started playing the guitar and sang:
🎵
I can’t explain how much I love you
You’re my innocent desire,
A wish painted in stories.
I know you know too,
No one else understands this bond.
You’re different to me,
I love you more than I show.
Your smile brightens my thoughts,
There’s nothing my heart feels without you.
Who else will love you like I do?
🎵
By the time Shrabon finished, he noticed Brishti had fallen asleep with her head resting on his shoulder. He gently put the guitar aside and carried her to the bed. Tucking her in, he brushed the hair off her forehead and kissed her gently.
Then, resting his hand on her cheek, he whispered:
“I still don’t know what happened that day. Why did you do that to me? Why did you try to kill me? After I woke up from life support, I thought I would punish you. I wanted to make you feel the same pain for betraying me. But I couldn’t. I didn’t love you the way you loved me… I loved you more. I loved you more than my own life.
Hurting you would mean hurting myself. You’ve become a part of me, Brishti. I can’t even think of causing you pain. No matter what you did, I know you love me too. There must be a reason why you did what you did. I just need your memory to return, and then maybe I’ll finally understand.”
“Love you, Jaan. Love you so much.”
Saying that, he softly kissed her lips and watched her sleep. Two silent tears rolled down his cheeks. He wiped them away and quietly left the room.
Love really is full of pain. No matter how hard you try, you just can’t hurt the one you truly love. You’d rather carry the pain yourself and pretend to be happy, just to see a smile on their face.
Downstairs, Shrabon called his men. When they gathered, he asked:
“Have you found them? Where are they?”
The men looked down and replied:
“No sir, we haven’t found any trace of them yet. We’re doing our best, but they’ve disappeared completely.”
Shrabon snapped, “Find them, fast! I need answers, and they have them. Go. Search every possible place. I want news about them—ASAP!”
The men left immediately. Once alone, Shrabon muttered:
“I have to find Borsha, Sourav, and Nazmul. They hold the answers to all my questions. How could they just vanish like that? I was fighting for my life in that hospital for so long, and they didn’t even show up once. Why?”
Back at his own home, Neel was sitting in his room holding a photo of Brishti. His eyes were teary. He truly loved her. He was going to marry her. How did things end up like this? Why did everything fall apart?
Just then, his mother called:
“Neel, can I come in?”
Wiping his tears quickly and hiding the photo, Neel replied:
“Mom, do you need permission to enter my room? Come on in.”
His mother looked at him and said gently:
“Why are you hiding it, Neel? You think a mother’s eyes can be fooled? Stop hurting yourself over Neela. She was only ever an entrusted responsibility for us. We never had the right to keep her forever. Of course, the one she truly belongs to was bound to come and take her back. We couldn’t stop that.”
Neel hugged his mother tightly.
Then…
