The Candy Caper: A Childhood Confession

I’ve never really confessed this before but today feels like the right time and the right platform to share something a little funny... and a little embarrassing.

Even now, when I look back, I still cringe a little.

I was in Grade 1, probably around five years old, studying at a small private primary school. It was a cozy place—only about 100 students in total—and we used to have a lot of fun. One of our teachers (let’s call her Ms. Sam) had started a small, unofficial canteen. It wasn’t anything fancy—she just brought snacks in a carton: lollipops, candies, chips, juice—and sold them during breaks.

She used to keep that precious box of snacks on a shelf in one of the classrooms. One day, while walking past that room, I happened to peek inside… and there it was. A box "full" of colorful candies and chips. It was like I had stumbled upon hidden treasure.

I knew we were supposed to pay for those snacks, of course—but in that moment, temptation got the better of me. I quickly slipped in, took a candy, and walked out as casually as possible before anyone noticed. Then I joined the others in playtime, acting like nothing had happened.

The next day, I did it again. One candy a day. It became a little secret routine. Nobody noticed, or at least I *thought* nobody did.

Then came the day that ended it all.

I walked into the classroom during break time like always, only to find that the carton had been placed on a much higher shelf—one I couldn’t reach. For a brief moment, I thought of giving up and heading back to my regular lunch. But then a little voice inside said, “You’ve come this far… You can’t turn back now. Those candies are waiting for you.”

So, I decided to climb up.

It was a struggle. I tried two or three times, slipping and almost falling. But just as I was finally getting close to my prize, disaster struck. In walked the most feared teacher in the whole school—Ms. Whirl Pool (as we liked to call her).

In that instant, I knew I was done for.

Panicking, I quickly jumped down and tried to act innocent. I walked to the other side of the room, picked up a stapler, and said with fake confidence, “I came to get this.”

At the time, I couldn’t understand how she knew I was up to something. Now, of course, I see how completely "obvious" I must’ve looked. But thankfully, I had a good reputation and good grades, and when Ms. Whirlpool reported me, Ms. Sam actually defended me. She said, “I don’t think she would do that. She was probably just looking for the stapler.”

That day, I went home and quietly asked God for forgiveness. I promised myself I’d never do anything like that again.

Even though it’s funny now, I still get a little embarrassed thinking about it. I thought I was so smart... but in reality, I was just a silly little kid with a sweet tooth and zero stealth skills.

Thanks for reading this confession. I hope you found it relatable. We all have those moments from childhood—little mischiefs that taught us big lessons. And honestly, being able to look back and laugh at our younger selves? That’s a blessing in itself.

I have a story very similar in context; it involved my school, my teacher, and I was at fault

We all have some of those, don't feel bad, a little childhood mischief is ok, I mean, it is candy. As long as it stops there, A-ok.
