The agony of defeat

The Devastating Effects of Failure on Mental Health

By saraPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

We all experience failure at some point in our lives. It's an inevitable part of the human experience, and yet it can be one of the most painful and isolating feelings we can endure. I know this from personal experience. I've been through times when I felt like a complete failure, when it seemed like everything I tried was doomed to end in disappointment. It's a difficult place to be, and it can feel like there's no way out. In this article, I want to explore the emotional state of failure and isolation,

“Imagine waking up every day with a deep sense of shame and regret, feeling like a failure in every aspect of your life, and knowing that no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to escape the suffocating grasp of your own inadequacy."…well most of the people…almost everyone in this world feels this once in their lifetime, in different period of time. Its feels like they are falling apart with every passing second. they can feel the mental pain. It feels like they would never get out of it ever, when they saw in their past and realize that it was a lot better than the present, they had plans …. but now they are seeing them vanishing in front of their eyes, its really heart wrecking. Every task feels insurmountable, and every decision feels like a potential disaster waiting to happen. You're stuck in a cycle of self-doubt, shame, and regret, and it feels like there's no way out. This is the feeling of failure at its worst. It's a state of mind that can strike anyone, at any time, and it can be incredibly hard to shake off once it takes hold. It's a feeling of being completely overwhelmed and utterly powerless, and it can make you feel like you're the only one in the world who's ever felt this way. You see other people succeed in their lives…some of them are even younger than you. You feel like you are useless, and a person without a purpose. You can’t explain your feelings to anyone anymore, you think that nobody can understand you. Even sometimes you cannot understand your own feelings. You lost interest because you know that even your hard work can’t fix things.

When you're in this state, it's hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. You're convinced that your problems are insurmountable, and that there's no way to fix what's broken. You feel like you're completely alone, even when you're surrounded by people who care about you. And worst of all, you feel like you're letting everyone down, including yourself. You feel embarrassed in front of people who love you, and believe you, because you know that you can’t make them proud on you ever in your life. You feel denial from happiness and your fate. One of the most difficult things about this state of mind is that it can be hard to identify what's causing it. You know that something is wrong, but you can't put your finger on exactly what it is. It's like you're lost in a maze of mirror, where you can only see yourself “the loser YOU”, there’s no way around. You don’t even know in which direction your fate is taking you to.

This sense of confusion and disorientation can make you feel even more helpless and alone. You might feel like you're going crazy, or that there's something wrong with you that you can't fix. And because you don't know what's causing the problem, it can be hard to reach out for help. You might feel like you're burdening other people with your problems, or like you don't deserve their help. You don’t ask or reach out people because you know that even their help can’t fix things for you. This is the worst type of failure I would say. At its worst, this feeling of failure can make you feel like giving up entirely. You might feel like there's no point in trying anymore, because you're convinced that you'll just fail again. You might even start to think that the world would be better off without you.

Sometimes As if the pain and misery of failure wasn't enough, it becomes even more unbearable when the people who once stood by your side begin to turn away from you. You start to feel like a burden on them, like you're draining them of their energy and happiness. And so, you stop reaching out for help, convinced that no one wants to hear your problems, that no one cares enough to lend a listening ear.

The sense of loneliness and isolation only deepens as time passes, as you find yourself sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss of your own thoughts and emotions. You start to question everything about yourself, wondering what it is that you did wrong, what you could have done differently to avoid this fate. You feel like there would be no affect on the world or people around you if you are not present.

But the answers are elusive, and the more you search for them, the more lost and confused you become. You feel like a ship adrift on a stormy sea, with no destination in sight and no compass to guide you. You start to lose hope, to give up on yourself, to resign yourself to the idea that maybe, just maybe, you're not meant to be happy.

And so you retreat further into your shell, becoming more withdrawn and introverted with each passing day. You stop going out, stop socializing, stop engaging with the world around you. You become a prisoner of your own mind, trapped in a cycle of self-doubt and despair.

The feeling of being abandoned by those who once supported you only adds to the pain and anguish, making it all the more unbearable. You start to feel like you're unworthy of love and affection, like you're not good enough to be cared for. You begin to see yourself as a burden, a liability, someone who's better off alone.
