Righteous in a corrupt world

It takes a lot of will power to keep walking righteously

By real JemaPublished about a year ago 3 min read

The world is a corrupt place and it's only getting worse to the extent where corruption is steadily becoming the norm. We’ve gotten to the point where we even question what the truth is anymore. The very foundations of what makes us humans are no longer regarded as solid, you’ve got people wondering what a woman is, whether the realities we’ve always known even exist anymore.

The corruption is only growing and its becoming more difficult to be a righteous person or even just a person who believes in the truth.

Just taking as example the society in which I live, earning a living can be so difficult. When you are trying to be righteous, there is always someone to bribe, someone to reciprocate to or a glass ceiling over your head because of your integrity.

I wrestle in my mind all the time about how some of these things are going to play out for me in the end. I don’t want to become corrupt, and unfortunately to have your way or at least not go through extreme pain will require a certain level of compliance with this corruption. It's never obligatory, but often is mandatory.

You want to succeed in business, you have to cheat, need a job, you’ve got to bribe, need a signature you’ve got to give favors and much more. I’ll really not like to paint this as being the full situation. There is still a good margin for anybody to live righteously in this world in its current state. It just requires for you to be contented, once you leave the realm of contentment and seek to obtain more, then that comes at a cost. Your business will do just fine by being small but once you want to scale up to certain heights, it comes with a cost of your righteousness too.

Walking righteously

It takes a lot of will power to keep walking righteously, your life is made a lot hard because you don’t want to align with what everybody else is doing. You no longer have access to doors which have been corrupted, to levels where only the corrupt survive, or to opportunities which favor the corrupt. This isn’t to say that we are desirous of corrupt opportunities, but rather even the normal ones have been corrupted.

You are aiming for a normal opportunity which everyone is entitled to, then you realize it has been corrupted, and now you have to either give up on it or become corrupt too. Without a contentment mindset you aren’t going to go very far. You also become the target of others, oppression and much more simply because you want to walk right, in essence you become the stain on what everybody is already doing.

When evil becomes the norm, then righteousness becomes evil

Walking righteously in this world isn’t an easy task, but it's still very much possible. That will require you to have a lot of will power, self-control, contentment, and determination to make it through. Without these qualities, you are sure to fall into the trap of an easy life and get contaminated by the corruption.

There world is a messed up place with so many things which aren't going to go our way, you can choose to become a part of the problem or actively work to be part of the solution. This will require sacrifices either ways depending on who you are and where you are found. I choose to be part of the solution and not the problem.

Sadly, that's how difficult it is to live in the 3rd World where most people even begin seeing it as the new normal. I refuse.
