Occupation: Busy Bee Needing work
I am hirable. I only need one shot.
Dear Future Employer,
This may come off as desperate. You may be discouraged from reading this information I display on social media and the internet. I advise you to read as much detail as possible. Even for my former employers, this is a show of theatrics suited for your entertainment. I have no choice but to rant and rave about my qualifications and experiences. So here goes: please hire me.
My time management skills are exceptional. There is no doubt. I can perform my tasks and responsibilities without explanation or having to go through periods without missing a beat in the office environment. If I have a doctor's appointment or appointments for my son, then I will let you know in advance. Wait, you have a son? Yes, I do. He is young but very rarely gets sick. It just so happened that last year, he had tonsil problems. I was the one waking up every odd hour in the night to take care of him. Those wonderful three years of sleep deprivation taking their toll. Do you think it is possible to retain any information when you have only three hours of sleep for a nine-hour job? Nope. So that is why the handy dandy notebook comes in handy. If you don't like the notebook, then you don't have to look at my qualifications.
But how does this affect my job performance? Well, would you like me to tell you now or down the road about my child? Is there a husband in the picture? Yes. He is a wastewater operator. Sometimes it requires me to pick up my son from daycare to ensure he does not get exposed to certain bacteria or chemicals that could cause health problems.
Cell phone usage? I detest cell phones being used during work hours. I am partial to using my phone to converse with my husband. It mostly goes like this: How is your day? I had a bad day, did you have a good one? Would you like me to pick up our son after work? Would you like me to cook dinner? I have some chores to do before your family comes for a visit, can you watch your son for me? If you see me on a cell phone, then call me out on it.
Do you have any behavior or aspects of your personality that could hinder team performance? Certainly, the question becomes who doesn't? I am a hard introvert. I do not like disclosing my entire information like dirty laundry. My personal life is none of your business unless something happens. If I have terrible job performance, if I have a horrible attitude, then it is most likely the childcare. My son's daycare is wonderful. Though they don't have a nurse on staff, they can provide pain relief when you sign their waiver saying it is okay. I do not want to change his daycare when he is halfway through its completion. There are aspects to raising my son that make me feel isolated or lonely because it is something I do not have in common with most mothers. I raised my son by myself with my husband for the first three years of his life. There was no support and no grandparents. It was very hard financially for both of us. The chronic illness and infections took a toll on my mental state and well-being. But now that he is recovering or going through recovery from surgery or other surgeries he is back to being his happy and wonderful self. Now all we have to do is ensure that he takes allergy relief from common allergies and colds.
Do I enjoy working with people who are nosy? No. Bossy? I'll get over it. I see them at work and I do not see them when work is over. We're both happy at the end of the day. Do I enjoy working with people who hide behind technology or screens because they have too much on their plate? Not really but why would you take on so much work? Don't you have enough things to do? I may clash in personality or I may be similar to someone in management. But that doesn't mean it is okay to take your anger and situations out on me because I do not have enough experience or qualifications to perform the extra tasks assigned. I will learn them through time. I will manage them through time. You have to give me a shot.
Do I miss any of my co-workers or former companies that I work with? Absolutely. I wanted to be part of the crew. But sometimes life has a funny way of throwing wrenches into the works and causing an unstable work-life balance. That is all I have been dealing with. Do you think I asked for my son to be sick all the time? Do you think I asked for a husband who has to be a wastewater operator full-time? Do you think I asked to be let go or fired because of my lack of sleep causing my poor performance? No. If I could apologize to a supervisor and sit down with them for a nice cup of coffee and catch up, would I take the chance? Yes. I wanted to be her asset and go-to for office work. But I blew that shot in the park. While I tried to go chasing the base runners, I got stuck in the outfield looking for pop-flys.
I may not have long-term employment. I may not have enough experience. But I will do what it takes for a company to succeed. I want to be a technician in a few years when my son is older. If someone isn't going to give me a shot, then I will go ahead and let them know I have what it takes to succeed. Especially since my son will be in better health I do not have to worry about losing my mind over ensuring he is good to go for school. I can catch up on my sleep and exercise, but I can also devote my time and skills to learning what I need to be successful. What does success look like? A woman who has everything and can do anything she desires.
