Human Monsters part 4

Fate has its ways

By ADIR SEGALPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

Lawrence Zink, from his seat, began to strike Nicholas with his fists. Everything that Rowan had said about the two women was essentially information regarding Lawrence's wife and daughter. He could not bear the very existence of the man who had completely destroyed his life.

He was unwilling to accept that Nicholas Peniapolo, the murderer of his wife and the one who had ruined his home, was roaming the earth. Lawrence continued to hit Nicholas in the face with his fists with such force that his hands bled, and Nicholas's face was covered in bruises.

Suddenly, a trench club rolled to Lawrence's side, consisting of a wooden handle and a thick metal spring, with a block of steel at its head. Lawrence grabbed the club, lifted it in his hand, and swung it towards Nicholas. However, before he could bring his weapon of destruction down upon Nicholas's battered face, Rowan's shout rang out from behind them, "Wait!"

Lawrence turned to see him approaching the two. As he walked, Rowan said, "Let me finish the story, and then you can do with him as you wish, Larry... I will not stop you... and the proof of that is in your hands."

Lawrence pinned the axe before Nicholas, immobilizing him to the ground. He gazed into the terrified eyes of the young man and said through clenched teeth, "Keep going, Eddie..."

Raven halted in his tracks, smiled slightly, and remarked, "Rosie came to me to inquire about the quickest way to break a jaw... and as an honest person, someone who could not believe that someone like her could harm a fly, I told her that a rope is the easiest and most reliable method to break a jaw.

"If only I had known that laziness, the fifth monster, was so far away, I would not have said anything to her... I am sorry, Larry... I am deeply sorry...

Lawrence's heartbeats intensified, and his breaths became shorter and more rapid. He felt as if a wave of something was coursing through his entire body, and he began to sense his body heating up to the point of boiling.

Lawrence raised the club he was holding high above his head, preparing to bring it down upon the soft face of Nicholas, who was pleading for mercy. The only sounds that reached Lawrence were the cries of his wife and the weeping of his daughter echoing in his mind... He brought the club down onto Nicholas's face.

Blood splattered in every direction, and Nicholas's pleas transformed into a clear cry for help.

Another blow struck his face, sending blood, flesh, and bone flying from the young man's head onto the grass to which his body was pinned.

Lawrence continued to strike Nicholas's head until nothing remained but a red and white pulp of bone, brain, and blood beneath the club he held. He rose above Nicholas's body and spat into the mass he had created, then turned and threw the club to Ravan, who caught it and said, "Fate has its ways; one monster leads to the demise of another... the monster that now dwells in your heart, dear brother, is rage, the most destructive of all..."

Lawrence moved towards the exit of Raven's yard and then turned to him, "You will keep this between us, right?"

Raven smiled broadly, revealing four large fangs, and said, "You provided me with an excellent meal, why would I cause you unnecessary suffering, my brother?"

Lawrence mumbled, "Alright..." and opened the gate in Raven's fence, intending to close it, but then he heard Raven's voice. The sounds produced by that voice caused him to freeze in place; Lawrence slowly turned his head towards Raven, his gaze becoming hollow like that of a wide-eyed corpse. Raven's words froze Lawrence's blood; despite everything he had heard until that moment, Raven managed to utter something that became the last straw. Fate has its ways, and fate found a way to break even Lawrence's seemingly invulnerable spirit.

Fate used Raven's mouth to crush Lawrence, with just one question, "The boy will not satisfy my cravings, so could you please bring me the girl's corpse as soon as you take her down from the noose?"
