Some days I love being a mom of two head strong and stubborn children. Today was one of those days that has us mom's wanting to pull all our hair out and run for the hills. It started with everyone sleeping through three alarms and waking up almost two hours later than our normal wakeup call.
Needless to say getting a ten year old boy who is known for his I do not want to go to school almost every morning and a fourteen year old girl who is a juggling act all in itself. Now add in two pups that have not had their breakfast into the mix, makes for a crazy circus. Also can not forget the grumpy cat who has been kicked out of the comfy warm spot. My daughter has the bedhead hair going on and seems to have forgotten what a hair brush is for and that we have like at least ten of them in our 2 bathroom home.
After tracking down her magic brush that obviously was in the last place it was left, then the hunt begins on finding matching pair of socks for the ten year old who was attempting to wear his favorite shirt again for the third time this week. Which is a normal ring around the roses argument that we have almost daily. Now throw the fact that my husband has the car this morning and the first bus has been missed. Being in two places at ones is not happening.
So after navigating the teenage hormones of having to have perfection before being able to manage the woes of facing the high school jungle. Managing the mom angle was able to calm her down enough to walk my son to his school. Which thankfully was just up the road. Now anyone who knows me knows I hate running so here I am red faced and out of breath just to make sure that she has made it to the bus stop and the world was not on fire. Keep in mind that in all of this I am still in my pajamas and hair is all over the place.
Kids now days get embarrassed by the littlest things. My daughter bows her head and states mom I got this you should go home now and get dressed. Out of the mouth of babes. I kindly reminded her that if she had gotten up with her alarm my scariness could have been avoided and stressed the importance of alarms smiling and walked away. As always the look on her face was priceless.
Finally getting to the house just to have to attempt to take the pups outside on leashes. Due to our new home not having a dog friendly yard. So if you can only imaging a almost 100 pound dog who is all muscle and loves to pull in one hand and a 50 pound hyper active puppy on the other tugging this way and that. Of course today of all days it also decides to snow, add the joy of being embarrassed as well because my neighbors choose now of all times to come out of their homes and wave and nod. I just wave while smiling back at them doing the head nod that we all do in those kind of moments.
So in defeat I half drag, half walk the pups grumpily into the house, and finally have that first cup of roasting hot yummy coffee. So moral of this story is the importance of not sleeping through alarms is probably the best wake up call a mom can ask for. If we are extremely lucky getting being able to sleep in is the best.
