Gift or Curse

Just as she arrived home from a well deserved mini-vacation, Vee stumbled upon an unmarked package left on her front porch. “What the heck could this be?” She mumbled to herself. She immediately called out to her fiancé to see if he had been expecting anything in the mail. “Jay!” She yelled. “Did you order something?” He came running because her call was mixed with a sound of worry and concern. “ No Sweetie.” He replied. “What does it say?” She replied, “nothing!” “Absolutely nothing!” “Hmm…” Jay was just as worried as Vee at this point. “What should we do Babe?” “I don’t know Jay.”

The both of them sat there on the porch, staring at the package then back at each other. They were both lost until they noticed that there was a letter in the mail box in a matching brown paper bag looking envelope… that was addressed to Jay.

As they sat there in silence for a few minutes, Vee became more anxious and Jay was now sweating bullets because he did not know what to expect. Then again, maybe he had an idea and that is why he still was slow to open it. He started to analyze all that was present. “This is a not so small package, so it wasn’t delivered by the mail man.” Said Jay.

“Open it already!” Vee suggested. Jay hesitated a bit but he knew that prolonging this any longer would only upset Vee further.

As he ripped through the envelope of the letter, he was welcomed by a fragrance all too familiar. It was vanilla and lavender followed by white rose petals that fell swiftly to the floor. The letter read, “ This is a reminder of all the times we made love. It should put you right inside my house in my jacuzzi bathtub filled with bubbles and lavender bath bubbles mixed with vanilla scented rose petals. I heard the news about your recent engagement from a mutual friend of ours and I must say, I was very surprised to hear that you had all of a sudden decided to take on this new journey of life and it did not include me. I wish you well and hope this package finds you both so you can explain to her, all the lies you told us both apparently. I’m sure she had no idea about me, since you never even bothered to mention her. Men! Just sickening! You can have it all back, everything you gave me. All the gifts, all the memories… all of it! In that package, you’ll even find the dirty drawers you left at my house lastnight! Goodbye Jay! I hope we never cross paths again! Jenna.”

Vee was numb. She had no words to describe her feelings at the time. She just got up and walked into the house and closed the door behind her.

Jay was equally speechless. Maybe even more than Vee. He was not expecting that type of surprise let alone having to open it up in front of his new fiancé. “How are we going to get through this?” He thought to himself. He didn’t know what to do, nor could he come up with words to speak to Vee. He was afraid to even be in her presence right now… for all he knows she could snap at any moment.
