Today I am going to share a funny story of the time when Josh and I were chased by our neighbourhood dog, Bruno.

My best friend Josh and I grew up in a little suburb in Melbourne. We were like two peas in a pod, he was my yin to my yang. Where he was, I was and where I was he was. All our childhood memories were shared together. They were filled with so much warmth, they connected our hearts together. Some memories made us cry, while others made us smile and laugh.

“One afternoon my friend and I were walking home from school. As we walked home, we went by a house which had an unleashed dog sitting on the porch. The dog was big, it almost looked like a wolf, with piercing blue eyes, and drool rolling out from the side of his mouth.

The dog started growling us.

At the sight of the angry dog, my friend started moving back slowly. I was petrified for a moment, my mouth felt dry, It felt like time had stood still, my hands were shaking violently, my pulse quickened. I looked at my friend and he looked back at me. I could see the fear in his eyes.

We quietly tip toed past. Without knowing I stepped on a branch which gave a 'crunch' sound. I quickly looked at the dog, it gave a loud growl again. He started barking at us aggressively. We panicked and ran for it. The dog charged at us.

We ran for a while, it felt like an eternity. Like being in eternal hell, like a never ending story. I stopped to catch my breath. To my surprise as I looked at my phone, we were running for fifteen minutes. When I looked back. I could see the dog still charging at us. l could feel my heart racing wildly in my chest, as I tried to catch up to Josh who was running like the wind.

I lept reminding myself not to look back. It felt like a terrible dream. Like a nightmare on repeat.

From the corner of my eyes I could see the owner of the dog, Mr. Smith who called out “Bruno! Come here boy!” in an authoritative voice. His voice thundered and echoed in the empty street. A ghost town.

At the sound of his owners voice, Bruno turned to face the bald man who was now embracing the dog in a big hug.

I took a last glance at Bruno and Mr. Smith, and kept running in the direction Josh was heading in. I kept repeating the name of the dog, Bruno. Over and over again in my head.

After making a few sharp turns, we reached a corner on the next street, we had lost sight of the angry dog, and his bald owner. We saw a fence and jumped to get to the other side.

When we reached the other side. We took our school bags off and we fell too the grand in relief and disbelief . As we lay there in shock, suddenly the smell of urine struck our nostrils. We could almost taste it. It was embarrassing to admit. I had pissed my pants. Sudden heat and sweat overwhelmed me.

My friend begun to chuckle. The chuckle turned into a laugh. The sound of my friends laughter would haunt me forever. It was the kind of laughter that was infectious. I couldn’t help it, but smile and laugh with him.

We walked the rest of our way home laughing…”
