___Confusions....
People live their daily lives with various confusions... For some, their whole lives are a confusion... I had a lot of confusions in words... I hear the words of many songs as confusions.. like "Shoes are for Lara's son"...
I met a guy who had a lot of confusions in my third work place, Mulgampala branch... The guy had just received a new appointment from the south.. In those days, appointments were given to that country... As soon as he arrived, the language problem hit him hard.... When he had to come, go, eat, drink, come, go, eat, drink at the same time, the guy became confused.. When he divided the pumpkin into fish, he went away unconscious...
When the guy was quite helpless with words, we would jump in and reconcile.. One day, the guy worked with me in the mortgage department.. The size dial that would cry if there was a little.. That's why we called him "baba"..
A customer came with some gold jewelry. We separated the jewelry, weighed it and were ready to enter the data… There were two necklaces that were tangled together or attached… Our baba said at once,
"Brother, these two are minilane"
(In their country, the way to say two necklaces are attached together is to use "ha" instead of "a").. Although it's a common word for the South, it seems a bit confusing to us.. It just sounds like a dirty word.. That lady also turned red.. With shame... This guy said to that guy,
" Give these two minilane to the stones, miss"
... I could see the lady coming very fast too… I jumped up and said
"Miss, the two necklaces are tangled together, right?"
I asked the clerk to step aside and give him a hard time. After the customer left, he said, "Don't say that, it's rude to be here..."
Another day, I was opening accounts in the savings section at the counter. After a while, he shouted "B.A.N. Sanjaya"... "B.A.N. Sanjaya"... He turned to look at me. There was a lot of people that day. There were four or five other customers in front of me. He kept looking at me and talking to Sanjaya, so I went to the man. Huh.., this is the Malay name of Bangsajaya, this is B.A.N. Sanjaya"...
Without making the man uncomfortable, I slowly approached the sheet and gave him the book, calling his name... After a while, the man bit us and we found Mr. Sanjaya..
The thing is, even today we can't call him Bansajaya... No matter how much we say, this guy is still called Basanjaya...
In the workplace, these misunderstandings often led to moments of embarrassment, awkwardness, and frustration....
However, they also "taught me valuable lessons about patience and empathy".
The language barrier, no matter how trivial it may seem, can have a ""significant impact on one's ability to communicate and interact with others.""!!
It reminds us that the world is full of different dialects and "languages," and that what might be perfectly normal in one context can be completely baffling or even offensive in another.
The incident, though minor, demonstrated the enduring confusion between names in a multicultural environment.
Even though I had corrected him.... he continued calling me ''Bansajaya'' without fail.
No matter how hard I tried to get him to say my name correctly, it became clear that the confusion??? would never truly be resolved.

Ultimately, what may seem like a simple mistake..... or confusion is often a reflection of deeper issues in communication.
As we navigate the "complexities of language" and culture, we must remember that patience and understanding go a long way in bridging the gap between us.
Despite the occasional "awkwardness,"..... these moments of confusion ultimately create opportunities for learning and growth, making us more aware of the diverse world we live in.
