7 Lessons I Learned This Week That Were Really Beneficial

Consciously or unconsciously, it is still you.

When it comes to your goals, you have to believe you are the one who creates your success and you are the one who creates your mediocrity, and you are the one creating your struggle.

Consciously or unconsciously, it is still you.

This is a challenging truth to accept, and the more I get this fact, the more I seek to grow.

It may take my whole lifetime to get where I want, but I can shorten the time by being observant and constantly applying myself with daily improvements.

Here are 7 lessons I learned this week that will help my continual growth, and I am happy to share them with you.

1- Time flies twice as fast when you squander it on mindless activity.

That quick moment of checking your feed or email can turn into regretted time lost. This lesson is an ongoing battle for me, as when I finally figure out one way to reduce my time on an app, another one takes its place. Like the Hydra monster in Greek Mythology, where every head got chopped off, another two sprung in its place.

Every time I stop using an app, I discover two more useful ones that further divide my time. It is not that the apps are useless; they take me away from completing my tasks, which becomes a loss at the end of the day.

On the bright side, I am grateful I recognize the pattern and can work to improve it.

2- Patience goes a long way.

Your goals may not happen as fast as you think, but you still have to go after them.

“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” — Anonymous

I can be impatient. But I have gotten tremendously better. Maybe it is because I am getting older and wiser with my years, but I see that things will happen when they happen.

The only thing I can do is keep consistent, and soon enough, it will work out.

Patience is a virtue.

3- We often avoid taking action because we think, “I need to learn more,” but the best way to learn is often by taking action.

Too much learning will lead to analysis paralysis and nothing will get done. so you have to be intentional with your actions.

I avoided many years of inactivity with my content creation because I needed to know more. Little did I know that I would learn plenty on the go by creating and posting my content. A momentum that happens when you keep doing what you love consistently.

Here is an excellent video on productivity:

4- Speed of implementation is an asset.

I like to say:

The quicker you apply, the quicker you fly.

If you get quick in your area of skill, you develop expertise. The more you do what you do naturally, the quicker you become. The faster you become, the more consistent you can be. And consistency brings rewards. The quicker you act on your dreams, the faster you have a chance of them coming true.

5- “Dont be afraid… It’s okay”

These words were from a kids’ show called “Yo Gabba Gabba” that my son watched. The characters were singing that to their friend, who was afraid of taking a chance at trying something new.

I found this a powerful lesson and reminder to not be afraid of going after your dreams and accomplishing your goals. The reality is everyone is scared at some point. I am always afraid to step out of my comfort zone, but I am more afraid to stay in it and have a life of regret.

The more I step out of my zone, the more confident I emerge.

So if you are having trepidations going after your goals — “Don’t be afraid it’s okay.”

6- The greatest fear in modern times is the fear of what other people think.

Remember that people will always have their opinion, but their opinions don’t have to be your reality.

This lesson has taken me up until now to find out. The weight of other people’s judgment is heavy. So heavy that it can stop us in our tracks, and we rather remain in the shadows than take a risk.

I came across this Brendan Bouchard quote that was so poignant:

“People aren’t afraid to start their dreams — they are just embarrassed to be seen starting small.”

7- “Remind yourself. Nobody built like you; you design yourself” — Jay Z.

No matter what you create or produce, even if others are doing the same thing it won’t be like yours — you are unique, so your output will be as well.

I hope these lessons were helpful.

Take care
