Players That Should Be in the World Cup

Taking a Look at Some Players That Will Not Join Their Country in Playing for the World Cup

By Jordon DumenilPublished 8 years ago 3 min read
Russia 2018 is already off to a big suprise with these star players that did not make their teams.

The World Cup is a time where star players get to truly shine in front of the whole world and represent their country by winning one of the most prestigious awards in sports. Sadly not all star players get to shine, and here are some of those players that were left out of their teams that should have been in Russia 2018.

Nicolás Gaitán

Gaitán; LM

Nicolás Gaitán, although underrated and not a household name, is an asset to every team he is a member of, but sadly will not be an asset to Argentina in Russia 2018. His amazing ability at midfield could have been a major help to Argentina and their already powerful offense, including the likes of Messi, Di Maria, and Aguero, but his individual skills and abilities speak for themselves.

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres; ST

Spain needs a good striker and although Fernando Torres is not what he used to be, he still has the skill to work with Spain and dominate the competition. Torres' season at Atletico Madrid has not been going stale and he is even doing better than Spain's current striker, Diego Costa. To add, the chemistry he already built with the team would ensure that Spain, as a unit, creates some amazing performances for World Cup fans. All in all, Torres is a secret weapon that no one would see coming.

Joe Hart

Joe Hart; GK

Joe Hart has cemented himself as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, with his work in Manchester City, 9 years on England's national team and 4 Premier League Golden Gloves. With such a prestigious career, it is a wonder how Joe Hart did not make the national team this year. All in all Joe Hart's experienced goalkeeping skills and composure during penalties could have been game-changing for England and their already star-studded team.

Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane; LW

Sane has had an outstanding season with Manchester City, proving to be a crucial member of the team, one of the most skilled young talents today. Only losing 5 out of his 58 games, it is easy to see that Sane is a critical component to any team he plays on. With such an amazing season one might wonder why he did not make Germany's national squad and the impact he could have had on it.

Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema; ST

This record-breaking striker was left out of France's promising squad due to some legal issues, but with another Champions League trophy under his belt, it makes fans wonder if he should have been on the national team. Benzema has the skills and talent to create some amazing goals for his team, and being paired up with Griezmann would make France an offense to be feared. To add his record of fastest goal (21 seconds) prove he has the skills to make some major individual contributions to his team.

David Villa

David Villa; ST

El Guaje has proved himself on the international level time and time again, and with his desire to rejoin and the support of fans everywhere, many people are asking why he is not already there. David Villa has shattered records for Spanish players and continues to deliver ground-breaking performances in MLS, even winning himself an MLS MVP award. To add David Villa was nominated best goal for because of his amazing heel flick in his last World Cup. David Villa is the perfect player for Spain right now, especially due to their lack of an effective striker and therefore should be on Spain's international squad.

In conclusion....

There are a lot of players that should have been in Russia 2018 that could have changed the game for their countries, and although their are more, these are some of the major stars that should have been in the World Cup.
